LOL, you can interpret however you like. RIVIAN did not EXPLICITLY promised performance gauges for everyone. What follows is an explanation of Drive Modes, not an explicit promise.
Dude, you’re the one cherry picking the release to feel like you’re right. I’m interpreting it the way they wrote it.

This is simple product differentiation. Just like every other manufacturer, if you want ALL of the features, buy the more expensive trim of that model. If you choose to buy a less expensive model, then you will have fewer features available.

most other car manufacturers for years have offered multiple trims in each model something along the lines of Base -- Sport -- Luxury to designate the difference. If you want those heated seats, better handling package, Automatic cruise control, then you buy a more expensive model.

I'm not surprised this difference popped up...and won't be surprised when more of these differences do in the future.

It'd be nice to know what you might end up missing out on going forward, but that's probably not even something Rivian can answer right now outside of things they have planned for the next little while. I expect most of the things they might leave out of the lower end vehicles is stuff that just isn't important for someone that isn't taking their vehicle on "adventures".

Everyone's drive mode app was redesigned.
"We also redesigned the Drive Modes app for everyone with improved accessibility and ease-of-use for the driver, plus new real-time vehicle data gauges."

That's one continuous train of thought. Everyone gets improved accessibility. Everyone get gauges.

You can't say "All contestants of this contest will get participation awards, plus $1,000", and expect the implication to be "[for the grand champion]". No, as written, everyone's getting $1,000.

Why stop there....clearly any comms that aren't conveyed thru a written contract signed by both parties, likely best if witnessed by a notary at a minimum, would clearly not be considered by a court of law to be binding on the part of Rivian......cripes....

I just don't understand why they chose to bold just that section if it wasn't a differentiator. Can you tow in soft sand mode mentioned later in the page? How about transition from conserve and snow with a swipe?

From what I've heard from the reviewers of the update, Rivian said that you can tow in every mode, except Quad Motors in Drift or Rally.

Wrong answer, you don't have soft sand mode.

I'm old enough to remember when the entire forum was up in arms about how they were going to make us pay for a garage door opener (which they didn't), they'd never add more media options because they're going to push Amazon Music (amazon music doesn't even have an app), they hadn't shown the interior because secretly they'd completely overhauled and defeatured it (they didn't), they hadn't shown the infotainment because it didn't exist (it was fine from day 1), etc.

Yes, someday Rivian is going to gate things behind subscriptions, and some capabilities will be software-locked to pricing tiers. I think they've earned enough credit for us to assume they'll do that in ways that make a lick of business sense and actually offer meaningful differentiation, not hiding half of a UI for a small set of customers in a half-baked implementation. If it looks like a bug, walks like a bug, and quacks like a bug, it's probably not the grand rollout of Rivian's software segmentation strategy.

Chill out.

Silly way to differentiate as many have already said.

Nope were going to bury your trip meter, motor temp high tough luck, you want to know the altitude use your phone, etc

Just because Tesla does shit like this doesn't mean it's not going to turn away customers, honestly doesn't seem worth it.

Not sure if you read the 12 pages here but seems like they have already confirmed this is as intended. I agree it seems like a bug and should be a bug but all indications are that it isn't.

Of course that doesn't mean they won't walk it back.

Unfortunately, multiple owners (including myself) have spoken with Rivian directly. Their support staff was unaware of the disparity, which is one clue it's a bug. However, they escalated the bug report to their Updates team who responded saying the omission is intended.

After escalating the issue with my guide, he said there is an internal support article where employees are able to comment and provide customer feedback. He said "your concerns are being heard", but also "if it's rolled back, you won't know until an update pops up on your screen, or the Social Media accounts announce a change".

So, it's officially a disparity. Best case, it's rolled back if enough people make a stink. Unfortunately, 99% of current owners do not have the baseline Dual Motor, so the vast minority is in charge of making a really big stink if we want it rolled back.

This is a reasonable objection but I wouldn't consider it dispositive. I've worked at the intersection of product teams and customer support often enough to know there's a vast opportunity for leaping to "by design" post-hoc explanation of phenomena without actually closing the loop on the intended behavior.

And I wish you’d quit saying they are different trims, you’re incorrect as pointed out by at least one other. Rivian only has one trim level currently, that’s the Adventure “package”. They used to have a lower trim level, the Explore package (that they dropped to streamline production). The motors, colors, wheels, etc are options within the same ptrim level. You seem to want so badly to feel like you deserve more because you have the quad, and others don’t.
Wrong. They are adventure duals.
