I am pretty sure there was consensus that we should not be throwing our vehicles into conserve mode at high speeds, so why would they put Conserve drive mode next to AP in the new update swipe? This means if I want to swipe to (and not press) Sport mode, I must go through Conserve first. Is my thinking off? Is this no big deal?

I 100% agree with this. Honestly, it should be swapped with Sport IMHO.

I agree, but you can just select the mode you want without swiping.

I thought it was better to switch to conserve once you are already at highway speed, rather than starting in conserve mode from a stop and accelerating up to highway speed (more tire wear during acceleration).

On the fly means On the fly.... I wouldn't say I make the switch at "high" speed, but I do switch it at freeway speed.... ?‍♂

Just select the mode you want, it's not the end of the world.

It's fine to change it at high speed (<80 mph because you get locked out above that regardless), just don't do it under acceleration or deceleration. Rivian put swipe on there so you could do it without having to look at the display, but odds are if you've had the vehicle for a while you're so accustomed to it anyway it doesn't matter. Just hit the button for the mode you want.

The consensus doesn’t mean anything. If it wasn’t good for the truck then Rivian wouldn’t let the truck switch to conserve on the fly.

I get the concern here. You don't want to be decoupling the rear motors unnecessarily. I don't really see the reason to have swipe on the first place because the swipe is useful when you have the icons overflowing off the screen which they're not doing. In this case they have a separate tab for the off-road modes.

I don't buy into the argument to only use it on the highway. Yes, it's true that it will slightly increase tire wear. However, you would simply rotate the tires anyway. The bigger issue with having the truck in conserve mode is it will have significantly less power and the power is not readily available when you need it. Even on conserve mode on the highway, there is still enough power to pass and that could sort of thing but at slower speeds or one on ramps may not be enough power. The other issue is that when the rear motors are decoupled, they cannot help with regen. That's the primary reason I don't use it at all really unless I'm on a long road trip on the highway. If you drive gently regen from front motors may be enough.

That basically means switching modes when the new gauge screen shows no activity at the wheel motors (irrespective of where the accelerator pedal may be), correct? If so, that's a little counter-intuitive because the accelerator pedal will likely be depressed and/or you could be on cruise control going up/downhill, but the motors are still doing some work even if you aren't changing actual speed.

Constant speed is best, it's easiest to match the motor RPM with driveline RPM.

I can only assume the thought was based on ride height options. I also kinda wanted Sport next to AP, but you can't run Sport at Standard ride height where in Conserve you can. I generally don't randomly flip between AP and Sport either...if I'm in Sport it's because I'm going to go bomb a canyon and I know it ahead of time. AP to Conserve and back again might be more likely to occur on a highway trip...but I generally still run AP unless I really need a couple more miles range, but you could just as easily slow down a bit and get the same result.

It would seem Rivian should be at a minimum delaying power add till after the clutches have engaged the rear wheels. Or even better, match motor speed to wheel speed, couple the motor and wheel together, and then add power. All that regardless of my throttle position on pedal. Hopefully they aren't engaging the power and then the clutch causing undue stress on everything.

And then when going into conserve, again...regardless of my pedal position, pull motor power to rears, then decouple.
