Exactly this^. For 90%+ of Rivian owners there's no RAN anywhere near you anyway.

So many people crying because they didn't get "their free turn". Get over it and move on you whiners in your $75k car.

I'm cool with your statement, as unpopular as it might be. But Rivian has once again proven terrible at communication. How about they just don't say anything until they actually have pricing ready to announce???

It's not that hard. Either you are charging by kw or by minute depending on area.

But it is different by location price wise as well. For instance in NY Tesla Magic Dock I’d 25 cents a kW, in CA it is 47 cents a kW. It also can be different based on time of day in some areas as well.

Just budget $1 a kW and you will have money left after your trip. ?

Tesla doesn't advertise prices, it's different for different states and locations. Pricing is on the app so I'm sure Rivian will do the same thing. It's not that hard.

I think Rivian needs to concentrate on putting their infrastructure in “rural“ areas where people are headed to for recreational activity. For instance southern Utah (south of I-70 and east of I-15 has five National Parks and two large National Monumen. With the “adventure“ mantra it should be putting RAN stations where others have ignored. In urban environments people are going to be charging at home the majority of the time.

They aren’t putting most of them in “urban” areas. And where they are, it’s just off a major highway. They’re putting them in places where they’ll get used the most and will be profitable the fastest. Also, the more remote the location, the more expensive it is to build.

I feel like when you purchase a Rivian vehicle, we should get a handful of free charges at RAN sites. Kind of a Thank You for choosing us thing. I have several sites in my immediate area, but haven’t had a drive take me near one yet. Would be nice to get a free top up when I finally make it to one, and sounds like it would t be too difficult to track.

For us, having to use a DCFC ten times a year regardless of cost is irrelevant. So what if I'm paying $50 to charge on the road? I'm paying zero at home. Let's suck it up and move on. My DC/AC lifetime split on our Tesla is 10%/90%. If I have to pay 30-50 cents a kilowatt for that 10%, I'm still coming out way ahead.

Really, you pay "ZERO AT HOME"?? Need to find out where you live that electricity is free! LOL.

And as I noted, for me, it's not so much about the cost, although the cost variance has been significantly reduced with the increase in charging costs, it's more about the time investment. Adding two hours each way to my trips can get tiresome if doing it often. I don't mind for one or two trips a year, but this year, have had to do more traveling and I certainly notice the time loss more now than in the past.

Haven’t had the opportunity to use a RAN yet. Although the next time I head to the RSC, I’ll drive by a new one and it’ll be my first. I’ve even thought of a 2hr road trip just to see it in action. LOL

Regarding paying, there’s no free lunch. I feel like we’d pay one way or another. They aren’t ubiquitous enough for me to take advantage of any free charging anyway.

Wondering if the e-mail was regionally sent or nationwide? I'm located in PA and didn't get an email. Hope early November is Thanksgiving.

I get that nothing is free forever but I wish they'd hold off until Tesla's network is open. I was thinking that would come sooner than planned but they need to get the NACS adapters out first. Cost-wise the RANs are so deep in red-ink that charging revenue from Rivian owners is almost a rounding error on the balance sheet.

I'm in texas area and didn't get the email either. Don't mind they are charging either, but doubt this will create much revenue for them .
