Bike on hitch rack hitting lift gate (R1S)

+1 on the Kuat Pivot. I was close with my 800's on my one biggest Enduro bike (see my profile pic) using a 1UP rack. I did get an extended in case some future bike gets close.

The ability to pivot the bikes to open the back is worth every penny you will pay for it, especially on any sort of road trip.

These posts are making me nervous about using my Thule Apex XT Swing 4-bike rack on our R1S. I haven't had to carry the bikes anywhere yet so I haven't tried it, but I think the design of the rack should keep the bikes far enough from the rear of the R1S. At most I'll need to carry 3 bikes so I can leave the one closest to the truck empty instead of the one furthest away. I should probably try it before we need it...

I have the Kuat Sherpa 2.0 mounted on the R1S hitch. The inside bike hits the liftgate before it can be securely clamped down. The bike is a small 27.5" with a relatively narrow handlebar width.

What am I doing wrong?
