Like an idiot I kicked this off before hockey, figuring I’ll be in there for two hours. Still not done, now it’s 10:30pm and I’m stuck at the rink while this thing hangs at 90%. I should know better

Not aligned on the silver lining here. They royally fucked who knows how many customers. This isnt a minor inconvenience, I need my vehicle tomorrow morning. This is the 2nd time in 9 months of ownerships where my car was not drivable due to a technical issue oversight on their end (April’s app lock out issue). Something this critical needs more checks and validations. If this isn't fixed by the time I wake up my confidence in this company is going to be hit massively.
I get it this is why one of the updates I delayed it for a week as I was about to leave on a trip and didn't update till I got back. I didn't want to take a chance of having any issues especially with the in-laws.

Might be a lesson for future updates to just wait for others to be the beta testers if you need your truck.

It’s not going to finish. Your trucked is f**ked like mine. However, seems like you can drive it (did a quick test in my drive way). I’m at home, and dont plan on driving it, but if I were not home, I’d risk the drive and try to make it home. If you do, can you report back on how it worked out?

I'm in Mexico, feeling fortunate that I did not try to update the truck. I wonder what Rivian would have done for me if they had bricked my truck way down here...

Yes, this is a lesson I learned with my Tesla, only update at home when there is time to work on a recovery if needed.

My suggestion to any one that started and it appears hung do not do anything, it should time out and if it does it may rollback to a state that will allow a new package to be pushed. Don’t compound the issue by trying to reset stuff unless support is telling you to.

I can validate that my truck is connected to the internet (bluetooth off) and can be controlled via the app (e.g. can drop the tail gate). So if my truck is being controlled via Rivan’s servers, why can they not push a new update vs requiring ”a physical repair.” I’m feeling a little better about being able to get this fixed remotely tomorrow. If I wake up to a pushed update I’ll forgive and forget. If I need a tow, probably going to cancel my R1S reservation.

Was thinking the same thing on the restart. I specifically did NOT do that. That said, my truck certainly is not reverting back to an old version. That would be very smart way to engineer things, but that’s not what they did. It seems to be in a boot loop.

Oof. This one is gonna hurt. Definitely gonna be some heads rolling on a dev team. Good luck finding a FAST fix for this. Maybe time to get a dual boot firmware option.
As someone who works in IT, it seems like they probably did QA testing by physically installing the update, then pushed the PROD via OTA. Not good.

I just talked to customer service. As previous poster said, I was told to leave the car unplugged, no seat belts, don’t sit in the car, connected to Wi-Fi, and don’t try to check it from the phone, so the car can go to sleep.

They indicated if car is in that state, it will automatically get an update. He said in the next “30-40” minutes.

I can’t vouch for the accuracy but am parroting what I was told in case it is helpful to others.

I was also told to just turn off bluetooth to keep the phone from waking the vehicle and to move my fob to the other side of the house just to ensure it would enter sleep mode without interruption

I’m trying that now, but I doubt that fixes it. Will report back in an hour
