For my current Ottocast CarPlay screen I could not power it from the center console. It didn’t have enough power. It can charge my phone, but it looks like the center console usb-c (at least in my R1S) isn’t powerful enough for the screen. Now mine also has a built-in dash-cam so don’t know if that’s part of the issue. It only worked by using an OBD usb adapter.
The owners manual states those are only 15W, that is why I was asking previously what the power usage is for the screen. Still no clear answer.

This is worth it for the access to Waze alone. Personally, I always use Waze on every road trip because I find it great for notifications of speed traps, potholes, road hazards, etc...

Using Waze on a phone just isn't the same as using it built into a vehicle.

Our screen works perfect with the supplied power cable and fuse panel tap. It also works just fine if powered from the under dash cig lighter port (if you have it). I will test the USB-C in the center console tomorrow.

I'll need to measure the actual power consumption, since I know it's less than 3amp at 12v, but that's a fuseable limit not a running power number. In sleep mode it's < 2mA.

Is this a "sleep" or "power off" switch? I.e., if turned off, will it wake back up only after you power it on again with the switch, or will it automatically power on when the car wakes up (either due to key proximity or from someone operning the door)?
Press it once to sleep. Press and hold it down for a few seconds and it powers off. With a power cycle (unplug it or truck cycles power), the screen will boot up on power-up.

I do like this option..it is more integrated than a tablet which you have to hang on it somewhere..can't go anywhere in a large city without Carplay or Android auto...now all I need is my R1S that was promised last week!

When you say there's no benefit from aux in, is this because the audio doesn't come from the unit but instead is direct from the phone to Rivian's BT audio? If this is the case, something to consider might be a third app ( in addition to Carplay and Android Auto ) that takes audio from Aux input and transmits it to Rivian BT. Might be too niche to consider tho'

Order placed. should be a nice add on. Little concerned about the look of another screen but worth it at least until similar functionality is delivered (I.e. text integration, better mapping and routing, Apple Music. Don’t need CarPlay but some of what comes with it.

When should we expect these to be in stock and ship?

What does the "truck cycles power" mean? Sorry for so many questions, just trying to understand the behavior because I want to avoid the screen connecting to my phone everytime I walk by the truck with my phone (and unintentionally transferring my calls for instance).

Based on how my unit now works. If you hit the power button to shut it off it will stay off until you hit the power button again regardless if the truck wakes up or sleeps. If I don’t hit the power button it will wake up whenever the truck wakes and shut off 10 minutes after the truck sleeps (this is because I have the Garmin OBD to USB adapter that has a 10 minute shutoff trigger). So yes, more because of the way Rivian ties the phone proximity to turning on and on, the device would do the same.

The latest update preventing the proximity locking and unlocking at home as an option should prevent that.

I will plan on getting a cig adapter that supplies at least 3A then, that should work. That is the info I was looking for. Some of those adapters are much lower than that, and you should have some margin built in to the power supply.

Thx

you can also turn off the 'auto connect' function in the settings on our screen. If you want to manually connect. Just an option, FYI.
