Just to confirm that I'm not missing something - there is no way to lock the doors manually from outside by pushing the handle or something?

For example, if I use PAAK and have the proximity locking disabled at home as I don't want to unlock (wakeup) the vehicle everytime I pass by it with my phone, then I have to manually unlock it from the phone but do I have to also lock it manually from the phone as well?

Two other options are auto-lock after 2 minutes but it's annoying to have it enabled and pressing the lock button on the center screen before leaving the vehicle which is not bad but I guess will take time to get used to.

Any other ideas?

I use the key card without taking it out of my wallet. I just hold the wallet against the driver's door handle

Fob or key card would be the only way to do it.

I use the fob (which is always in my pocket) if I don't feel like grabbing my phone for whatever reason.

Honestly I think the self present handles are more a hassle than convenience. The silent proximity unlock method that almost all the other vehicles (EVs or not) use (that still requires you to push/pull on the handle to fully wakeup and unlock the vehicle) is much more convenient imo.

2023.42 introduced a lock-only proximity option at home. Give it a try.

I think you can hit the lock button in the center display after opening the door to exit?

I really don't understand what you are saying.

With other cars, you have to unlock the car in some way. Old school using a key, a fob, a card or a phone. Some of these are proximity and some require a physical action. Once the car is unlocked, you have to pull the handle to open the car door. In the case of my Y, you have to push in to pull the door handle which is a pain in the ass when holding stuff. The R1S presents the handle which is not much different than the handle being out all the time like on most cars. btw, the best is my X that opens the door for me as I walk up.

Ford and GM have push buttons on the door handles to lock and unlock. Works with fob or phone in your pocket.

But how is that more convenient than simply opening the door?
I works 100% of the time, no waiting for the vehicle to recognize the phone or fob. But that is more likely due to the fact they use a separate low power door control module that is always awake. No vampire drain either.

I turned off proximity auto lock/unlock on my other cars, and find the button more useful. The car does exactly what I tell it to do.

My Ford had a capacitive sensor in the grip part of each handle and another sensor with raised lines (like the charge port open/close on Rivian) next to the handle. As long as you had a fob with you, you simply grabbed the handle and the door unlocked. When leaving, you’d touch the raised lines to immediately lock. It reacted instantly and there was no unintended unlocking or locking because the vehicle was never guessing what you wanted to do; it just did what you told it to do.

This. I am keeping "Lock Only at home" turned off until they fix the battery drain issue and just hit the lock button on the main infotainment screen (upper left corner) to lock the truck before I exit. Takes roughly 1/2 second.

Completely agree. It is beyond frustrating that these handles advertise an unlocked vehicle. Prox unlock should kick-in when a locked handles is pulled, like on my Porsche. There needs to be an option to not present handles
