We've had our R1S for just under two weeks. Had 150 miles of charge left on it and had to drive home 36 miles, didn't make it. As we started to climb a 6 mile grade our top speed maxed out at 40 mph and the charge just started dropping. We pulled over right before it died. Called tech and performed a re-boot, still dead. Called a tow truck and My wife, 5 year old and me got a ride from friends home. Super fun in 30 degree weather in the dark. Tech set up a rental, wanted to tow to my house which was a mistake so i had them tow it to the Reno Rivian Service Center (Sparks). Waiting on a report....but not a good start for a brand new car that costs $100K.

Hi Matt,

We are so sorry to hear about this experience. I can't even imagine. The best next steps would be to contact our service team to further assist at 855-748-4265. They should also be able to coordinate a loaner/rental vehicle for you.

Please let me know if you have any additional questions. Glad to assist where I can.

Stay adventurous,

That "Stay Adventurous" closing is getting a bit old at this point. The OP just sent a message about a family getting stranded on the road in the dark, during winter in their $100K brand new vehicle and the reply closing is "Stay Adventurous"? Well, that was an "Adventure" but in a bad way.

It’s a standard signature line for all their email and yes it’s tacky to say that in the face of new vehicle failure, but it’s so minor compared to the real problem which Rivian said they are so sorry and will make it right

Wow so sorry you experienced this. That sure sounds like an issue with the high voltage battery. Rivian will give you a loaner and get the problem sorted. They also have an excellent warranty.

So sorry about your problem. I said it many times and will say it agin... the Rivian Guides are useless, at least for me. I haven't been to the Reno/Sparks Rivian SC but hopefully they are good to work with.

I'm even more suspicious of bad cells in the battery causing the vampire drain and these sudden SOC decreases..... They need to get their house in order.

Of all the issues we complain about here, this is the one that concerns me the most. I am a huge Rivian fan and love my R1. No issues so far but this worries me. We need a sticky on "what to do if your Rivian dies on you." I know it's not the most positive think to put a sticky on but best be prepared than polite. I wish the OP all the best and hope this is resolved quickly.

Agreed. Car randomly dying on you can be extremely dangerous especially with kids.
