They ran a large pack side by side with a max pack. Were at a EA charger at 10% SOC on the batteries and charged them both for 15 minutes. Drove at 85 mph for 85 total miles to get back down to 10% SOC then compared some results like energy uptake during charging, consumption and efficiency. No great surprise everything was about the same. Really don't understand the point of this at all. Watch if you must but it really is 45 minutes of pointless talking.

I like the nerdy videos, but I think what they're saying is they expected that the max pack would hold max charge for longer than the large pack. But the opposite happened. It wasn't a temperature issue either

I would have expected the same, so this is disappointing. The other point this proves is the only benefit to max pack is that initial range benefit, but you get next to nothing on a road trip.

Kyle's video are usually informative, this one was a big "so what?". He could of summarized this dubious test in 3 minutes. Max is about initial range, full stop. The bit about normal road tripping about driving over 80 in the middle of the winter is a bit of a stretch for us east of the Rockies.

I'm still up to do a max pack test. A proper test will put max pack on a road trip and show the benefit which I believe is a small amount of public charging time saved.

Kyle's videos have value for the community. Though this one seemed to be more of a "boys night out" type video than a serious display of the benefits of max pack.

Initially I thought there was no value but the more I have considered this I have changed my opinion... Slightly... On max pack.

I do believe max pack has some value and would love the opportunity to do a video on the subject. Any mid atlantic max pack owners up for it?

How did you arrive at that? The Max pack will go 30-40 miles extra, same mi/kwh means max will go that many mi further

Yes, the max pack will go a few more miles in the initial charge but after that there is very minor benefit. For $10k extra, I agree with Kyle that max pack is not worthwhile but I can understand others may think other way.

Wait I thought we had a thread a month ago that said charging curves were similar on large and max pack (reaching roughly same %SOC around the same time) which means the max pack would get more miles per time charged?

Curious how far east of the Rockies you're referring to. I've had plenty of driving looking and straight at high speeds east of the Rockies from MT to the Great lakes...

The test isn't specific to winter, they're just trying to get it done. He should have a cold weather callou8 though.

This still leaves the mystery of where a lot of the Max Pack’s extra range comes from. The battery isn’t that much bigger and it’s not more efficient. So, is Rivian just fudging the EPA numbers? Is the Max Pack somehow more efficient at slower speeds?
