Anyone else had Rivian overcharge for a tire rotation? I had mobile service do some warranty work, and figured I'll throw in a tire rotation at the same time. The ticket said "do a tire rotation", I watched, they did a tire rotation (though didn't really follow the pattern, did front to back only).

Then I get a bill, says $100 for a rotation and balance, they didn't balance, I don't even know if the truck had a balancing machine. And then it says "Courtesy inspection" and they billed for $40, I never asked for that, and how the hell do you bill anything for something called a "Courtesy inspection"?

I had mobile service come out for tire rotations on my R1S and R1T. I had asked for the 5 tire rotation for the T and they kinda did that. It was just front to back, then take the tire they felt was most worn and swap for the spare! The R1S, they said did not need a rotation because the front tires were better than the rear. Odd because I am at 16K miles and never rotated.

I was quoted $60 per vehicle and only charged $60 since they only did one. Mobile service did perform recall work on the R1S at no charge.

DIY... I'm 65 and just did a tire rotation myself (front to back and back to front). I'll keep doing it until I cannot lift those damn heavy tires. I don't usually pay to do things that I can do myself.

I just had my tires rotated at my local tire shop last week - they charged me $30. I put together this document and gave it to them with the pucks:

Rivian R1T R1S Overcharging for tire rotation 1715192930385-z6

The document really helped them and I just folded it and put it in with my pucks. As soon as I buy a set of tires from them my rotations will be free. Find someone locally to do it (as long as you have the pucks).

Tire dolly

Huge help with moving and positioning wheels for rotations. Goes on sale for $99 frequently.

I was quoted $90 when at SC for warranty work. Due to warranty work taking 3 instead of 1day they comped the rotation.
They told me diagonal swap only, not what is shown in service guide above.
I plan to use Discount Tire in future.

SC only charged us $60 for a rotation the last time. I think Tesla charged $80. Unless your having vibration at speed balancing is not recommended or needed. I never balance my wheels unless I have vibration or when I get new rubber of course.

$100 is not too crazy if labor rates are $200 an hour and it takes half an hour to do.

Awkward name, but makes mounting & moving tires much less awkward:
The Jack and Jill of All Tires

The only thing that would help more is a two-post lift in the middle bay of my garage.

Not sure why anyone would pay for mobile service to do a tire rotation when America's / Discount Tire will:

- Balance your tires. Mobile service does not, and balancing is a MUST given the rapid and uneven tire wear on these vehicles.

- 9 times out of 10 will do it for free.

FYI unless they are putting the vehicle up on a lift with the pucks, which is not common, most tire shops will floor jack one side at a time allowing for front-to-back rotation only.

My first mobile tire rotation here in ME it was free along with a recall inspection. I was told they charge 100 for the next tire rotation only, no balancing. The second rotation I requested was when I bought the spare kit. No charge for this as well and it included the 'courtesy' inspection as well during mobile service. In ME, there is no America Tire or Tire Discount around.

I had the same….supposed to be $60 as verified by multiple people having a rotation done through the same (Chelsea MA) service center (both at SC and mobile. They tried to add $80 for a “courtesy inspection”, which I caught when they sent a work authorization a few days in advance. I spoke with a few people via CS (because of course you can’t call directly to the SC) and nobody seemed to know or be able to verified my what the correct charge should be or whether it was appropriate to charge $80 for anything listed as “courtesy”.
I just cancelled…didn’t rotate. I have 27k miles on the 20” ATs with no noticeable uneven wear or problems….(my one previous rotation at 10k was thru local shop for $100)

I’ve got a pair of those (different brand, but same concept) to move aircraft around the hangar, but never thought of using them to move tires around during a DIY tire rotation. Definitely keep that in mind as I age and/or get vehicles with heavier tires…

America's / Discount tire doesn't exist on the east Coast. So you have to use a shop that has no training on Rivians...

Anyways, I complained, I will see what they do...they didn't send a work authorization in advance

Get a set of pucks (get the magnetic ones) and train your favorite local tire place. The first time I took my R1S in for a tire rotation they let me into the bay with them to show them how the puck covers and pucks worked. Their only question, for which I was prepared, was how much torque for the lugs. It's why I put together the document above.
