I literally posted the pics as I was sitting outside on my neighbors lawn while the firefighters were still there and I was talking to the investigator.

Sadly both my house and my R1S.

There’s not much to the story - unclear as to what caused the fire but it started in the house - had nothing to do with the vehicle - I was home alone and just made it out. The fire hadn’t spread to the outside of the house and my keys/wallet/phone were by back door and I tried to grab them but fire was too out of control by then.

By the time I got across the street to my neighbors and called 911 the fire spread to the carport and the roof of the Rivian was the first thing to catch fire.

But the vehicle categorically had nothing to do with the fire. I havent gotten my home charger installed and have been unable to charge it at home (hit a grounding error when I tried the wall charger).

Glad you got out and apoligies for my skepticism.

The pictures on Reddit really show the vehicle destruction, crazy how much of it just appears to have melted.

And a reminder to everyone. Backup your computer files to an external drive every few months and store it offsite. I've seen "cloud" files get lost.

when things settle, make sure to let Rivian know. They may be interested to see how the various protecton systems held up. Lots of engineering to stabalize a vehicle is it is exposed to a car burning next to it or house fire etc. I imagine it is hard for them to test for and would love to see exactly how vehicle fared.

I'll eat crow when I step on my own #$@$. I apologize for my initial skepticism. Also, sorry for your major loss. I can't imagine losing all the memories and a loved pet.

We get a lot of drive bye shootings here in the forum, and with the way the internet is going, they get reprinted enough times, that it can even effect a stock price. Also, a lot of us are unsure of the new to us EV technology, so when something goes horribly wrong, we tend to second guess our purchase and whether it was the right choice for our families.

Good luck and hopefully things only get better from this point on.
