Hi All

Took delivery of a R1S on May 31 (not a single call from the Rivian Guide prior to delivery which I found fascinating). Came home and realized that they did not give me a flashlight. Went to charge for the first time next day and got error codes about the battery. Drove for the first time on the freeway and the steering wheel had a significant shimmy. Went to Americaā€˜s tire (didn’t want to wait for months to get service) and rebalanced (they found three of the wheels were off by 0.75). Shimmy appeared to improve a bit but still existent. Despite Rivian’s initial response that they could take me in during September, I persisted and got my car checked in on June 3. I’ve had multiple Teslas so I understand this new company thing and I could even sympathize at times, but Rivian’s delivery and service so far has been abysmal. They say that the car can take 1 to 2 weeks. I bought the car because I liked the brand (i.e., tired of Tesla) but my experience so far has been nothing but horrific.

I feel you. My experience so far has also been subpar, although to an extent I can't really blame them as I am "assuming" that they might be overwhelmed with all these new sales/leases and also understaffed.
My last conversation with one of the "guides" or "delivery coordinators" was today.....only after I texted them over the last couple of days. In my case my original delivery date was rescheduled due to "a defect found on the hood of your truck during the pre-delivery inspection". I already bitched about not getting a heads up before, so I won't now, but I was told that I would hear from them about the plan to fix it soon.
On today's call I was only told they're ready to deliver and when I asked about what was wrong with the hood I was just told "Oh...they'll fix it" as it had some "minor damage during transport".
Ok, so I ask if this was bad enough that I would affect the value of the car and all I got was a snarky "Well you're leasing anyway so it doesn't matter". Ok, partly true, but what if I plan to keep it...... ?

Conclusion: This has Definitely been an eye opening experience from someone who's dealt with Audi and Porsche dealers mostly.....I know....$$$$, but trust me I'm no snob, drove Hondas for years and always got great customer service with all of them. Let's see what happens when I get the truck......hopefully no horror stories but reading plenty of the post on this forum, I am not holding my breath.

Thanks and sorry about what you are experiencing. When I bought the car, I wasn’t expecting a high level of service but I also wasn’t expecting this either. It’s just impossible to get a hold of the person in charge of my car, which is frustrating. On the other hand, the 3 days I did have with the car, I was very impressed with how strong the car’s fundamentals are, in light of how new Rivian is. Loved the car. Just hoping they’ll take care of the problems in short order.

I would assume the later model has fewer issues? Or just luck of the draw

Is my VIN for a recently produced car? I don’t even know how to figure that out yet?

I never once heard from my guide during the purchase process. All DIY.

My HV Battery bricked after a week.

But, service was fantastic. Think it depends a lot on your service center, unfortunately.

Only about 600 miles in and all is well. Hoping it gets better for you, too. It really is a great car.

I am waiting for the refresh news and following the forum posts. Not too thrilled to read the myriad problems reported with new deliveries! Hope they clear with the refresh

Appreciate you responding. I’m feeling a bit better already?

So there isn't a flash light in the drivers door? It's not something they would give you, it should just be in there.

All the guides on the west coast got laid off, so not surprising no one contacted you. If you had a problem you would interact with the local delivery team or corporate service. Not defending or trashing that but it's their current OP.

Regarding the shimmy, I assume American Tire did a road force balance? If that didn't fix your shimmy you might have a defective tire. I had that issue with a couple of the 20s that I bought from Discount Tire.

Yeah the door was missing the flashlight. In all my excitement at the delivery, I of course forgot to check.

America’s tire did a road force balance and the shimmy got better but still there on certain parts of the freeway that I take. My other cars don’t do it on the same stretch but the Rivian will have no shimmy on smooth parts of the freeway but a noticeable shimmy on certain stretches. Go figure.

Congrats on the vehicle, and sorry you're experiencing this.

I'm actually in a similar boat. Took delivery on May 18th and the car has been in the shop since. On the drive home from the SC, I ran into a suspension error/failure where my R1S couldn't get out of Sports mode.

Had it towed to the nearest SC (thankfully 5 mins away), and nearly 3 weeks later I'm still waiting for the SC to receive a part from Normal, IL so they can fix the issue. Paying for a lease I can't drive, and it's been close to 3 weeks now.

First car was a Honda, second car a Subaru, and 3 BMWs later.. finally tried a new brand. I'm still in love with the brand and what they stand for, but geez can they just get their quality control down already?!
