Took my wife a year, but she managed to back into a yellow pole today. This is the only picture she sent me so far, which is the passenger side rear quarter. Is it totalled?

I already talked with my neighbor, who can get me the plastic trim pieces. The rest I'm planning on stopping by a local shop which does certified Tesla repairs, but not certified in Rivian repairs. They have done awesome work in the past for us, so I figured I would ask them first.

It looks like a nice straight line. Ask her to do the same on the other side and call it a “refresh”.

When it's self-inflicted, you say "scars add character". When it's done by some unknown scoundrel, like what happened to mine within first month of delivery, you say "F@&%! This is why we can't have nice things." Nowhere as bad, but sheetmetal is deformed. White paint and stealth PFF hides it somewhat. Easily repairable via PDR, if I didn't have PPF. But if I didn't have PPF, I would also have paint damage. Sigh.

Not Totaled. I did way worse, on my R1T. I did use Rivian Certified repair here near Pittsburgh PA.
extremely happy with work, Kilkeary’s Auto Body. Yes the cost is higher, but I also had my son’s Ram 1500 repaired and it was not cheap either, like everything else these days.

How does any of this happen with the number of sensors we have and the blaring warnings, along with the camera view????? Even when I go to hop a curb with the rear tire on purpose, it warns me.

Wife backed in close to a fire hydrant at work, so she could give extra room on her drivers side. She did this so she could avoid door dings. Well, the fire hydrant has the metal poles around it to protect it from people like her. When she took off, she turned too soon and clipped the pole with right side of the car as she drove off. Since it was already close to the pole, the sensors were already screaming at her once she put it in drive, so she kinda ignored them. I watched the video and might even post it... it really was a game of inches....

Now the bad part... I drove to my favorite bodyshop to get a quote. They do high end vehicles and the owner is a certified instructor in the bodyshop world. He thinks they might not even be able to quote it, because they are afraid of not being able to recalibrate sensors after parts are removed to do the proper fix. Rivian doesn't release a lot of info, so they would be in the dark with the electronics. Otherwise, the fix itself isn't that bad.

Update:

Neighbor gave me the contact info for the Rivian certified shop that does all the body repairs for the Rivians Eastvale SC. They are Ben Clymer bodyshop in Riverside (Alex is his contact). They are currently going over the damage and working on a quote.

Any guesses? I'm really trying to do this outside of insurance, but figure I will end up using them after the bomb drops.

Welp... you if you want a point of reference on how much a minor collision costs to fix on a Rivian, here you go!! $6100.00 at a certified Rivian repair shop. I was going to try to pay it out of pocket, but I'll just opt for the payment plan when my insurance goes up for this one.

PDR is probably around $1k, then paint repair (you could ask them to just hit it with a pen after dent removal), then sensor calibration.

My guess is $2500 OTD for the fully monty. Or you could go cheap and just do the dent pull, paint pen, and hope the calibration is ok after reinstall.

Or, you know, totaled.

I might end up doing this through my insurance... only because of how close the crease in the door is to the edge. The door material is double thickness there with a small void inbetween, which would give almost zero access for PDR repair. To top it off, the quarter panel edge has a decent sized gouge with exposed aluminum. I know another dent/ scratch / final destination type event will happen a few weeks after we get it fixed, but as a car guy, I lose sleep over stuff like this.

The worst part is, my wife revealed to me "TODAY" that this wasn't the first time she has done this. In college, she borrowed her moms acura legend and did the same thing with a similar yellow pole. If she would have disclosed this prior to our wedding, I might have had second thoughts, or at the very least started a separate savings account for incidents like this.
