ugh, VW? Glad rivian getting some cash but they are the devil for me when it comes to environmentally friendly automotive companies after dieselgate. I dont care how many EA stations they are legally obligated to open (and horribly run).

Big break for Rivian. Hope this will lead to EV nirvana for both companies :fingerscrossed: :like:

First thing I thought of was R2/R3 production in Europe in one of VW’s factories.

Win win. VW has lots of cash, Rivian has a great dev team.

VW just made up for a decade of software neglect with a cash infusion to Rivian. It would have taken them years (that they don't have) to try and do it organically, and why would they for the price of a few billion when they have $70b cash on hand give or take.

Good on RJ securing funding to pad the coffers just in case. Also says a lot for their software as the 40% (2/5) is a joint software partnership.

In other news, a lot of people betting against Rivian lost a lot of money today.

I'm kind of glad on for both things.

It is wonderful to see such a positive development in the EV industry. The partnership between Rivian's cutting-edge technology and Volkswagen's extensive expertise is mutually beneficial.

What's really interesting to me is how this affects how the market views Rivian going forward. The justification for Tesla's outlandish valuation is that they are a software company that builds cars. Now you can easily say the same about Rivian.

Much of the continued optimism in Tesla in spite of economic headwinds is the potential for future licensing of things like FSD. Now Rivian can point investors to the fact that they sold their software stack to one of the largest and most established auto manufacturers in the world. That's quite a story to tell, if I'm honest.

Sometimes events like this begin to create their own momentum.

I guess now we know why the Scout looked so familiar...
After so many of us got laid off, quite a few wound up migrating to scout. Several of my former colleagues are there now and loving it.

Rivian will see enough cash to give them a real chance at making it to r2 and r3 production not on total fumes. This is a lot of capital.
Oh, completely agree about the benefit to Rivian. I was responding to all the posts about pipe dreams like joint manufacturing to bring the R2 or R3 to market sooner, or a Rivian-built Scout, etc. From the consumer perspective, the only thing we're likely to ever see from this directly is VWs with Rivian software. Even those will surely have their own UI design. Even the zonal architecture isn't really going to be visible to consumers. The Scout isn't going to be made by Rivian. At best it will have Rivian's zonal architecture and software.

Just my humble opinion...

I do not like this at all. VW is one of the worst manufactures on the planet outside of those in China.

They have been known for industrial espionage, and have paid fines for it.

They recently bought out another US Truck Manufacture

I think its just bad news. Time will tell.

Absolutely. VW's software in general including the UI sucks so bad, it's literally the worst rubbish in existence.

This whole ordeal is bitter sweet. I'm very excited for the cash injection for Rivian and although I'm sour toward VW for various reasons, it's probably one of the best moves they are making as it'll address the area that they lack the most. Software / UI.

The only hope is to avoid getting any of VW's crap reputation spilling over to Rivian in any shape or form. Keep this purely business and we should be okay.
