I took shipment of my R1T in February of 2023. When Rivian asked to opt in for the free NACS Adapter (late March), I responded immediately. I am doing a bunch of travel in August and am counting on having that option. The fact that Rivian support has ZERO clue as to where I sit in the queue is maddening. Rather not but an aftermarket adapter but with a shipment estimate I could at least make an informed decision.
I took delivery in May of 2022, vin 49xx and no adapter shipping email as of today.

For what it's worth, I spoke to someone at Rivian last week, and although he was not able to help expedite an adapter for my summer travels, he did note that himself and his team have been notified that all adapters will be shipped by the end of August
There must be a container full coming from China for that to be true. I can believe it.

Sorry but the person you spoke to seems clueless. There's no way there's some 60,000+ adapters being produced and shipped in the next month.
Could be true if they were made in China and in a container on a ship to arrive soon. Very plausible.

June 2022 delivery here and no adapter yet so I’d say you will be waiting a while longer. As others have said, it’s a Tesla issue and Tesla probably doesn’t care to help out a rival EV manufacturer.

Neighbor is a test engineer at Rivian... They only have like 4 or 5 of them in the whole testing department and they are guarded like gold. He also zero clue when he will get one for his personal Dec 2022 R1T.

If it impacts your ownership experience that much, buy the A2Z, and sell it when your free one shows up.

These things are being produced like they are rare artifacts... Advertising to someone buying today that they'll get a Tesla adapter in 2 years seems like a bit of misleading marketing.

if its true Tesla is the one providing the adapter, then they have no incentive to be in a hurry to get them out. plus will the entire charging team begin fired a while ago, it likely is delaying this as well.

You know they're hiring people back, right?

I agree with you on the lack of incentive to get these out... but they are already designed and working. Doesn't take a charging team to make some plastic pieces, with connectors sprinkled in. Unless someone took all the engineering drawings with them, should be as easy as pushing the order button.

and you think all that firing and hiring isn't disruptive? just because you hire some people back doesn't mean things go right back to where they were, priorities remain the same, etc

An occasional update like “please be patient, we are now shipping adapters for vehicle owners with shipment dates of XYZ” would not be too difficult.
Super simple. Just take your VIN divide by 1000 and that's how many months from March you need to wait.
