I wish we could just force the vehicle to stay in sleep state unless we manually open the door handle.
That would be great feature like an "OFF" button. Rivian just built different for every vehicles. I have two different rivians at home. The DM R1T is in "DEEP SLEEP" mode all the time that it does not even show you the "real" internal temperature of the vehicle. This car is park outside in texas heat daily and it always showed the temperature when it first went to deep sleep mode. I literally have no vampire drain in this vehicle where my Quad R1s, which parked inside the garage, lost about 1 to 2% a day.

That's fantastic! Thanks for all your work :)

Was looking at this setup earlier today...

This would keep both 12V batts fully charged, the port would get mounted somewhere in the front of the Rivian and would let me simply unplug from AC power quickly without any fuss.

I ordered the above items today, once I install them I'll run tests on VD and report my results here.

Thanks to @shrink for getting the ball rolling on this project!

Yep. Latest update has caused my VD to go from ~0.8% to ~2% per day just sitting in my garage. Grrrrrr
I'm also seeing increased VD after the update. I haven't done a very good job at logging and quantifying things, but prior to the update, the loss varied from about 1% to 2% occasionally. After the update, done just a few days ago, it's about 2% each day.

Thanks for this post. I thought I was seeing more since the update and knowing someone else thinks so as well Helps.

I will try to monitor and record the VD to see if this if the increased loss is real or merely apparent. I have a service appointment for my R1T for the end of November (believe it or not, that was the earliest date I could get), and plan to add the drain issue to the work order.

Appreciate the efforts and reporting on this issue in this thread.

I'm getting tired of the VD. I leave my R1S plugged in and I see it pulling electricity multiple times a day which blows my mind. Taking away from our solar efficiency for the rest of the home.

Is anyone willing to make a step by step YT video to help folks walk through and replicate the hack?

If you purchase a battery maintainer/trickle charger similar to the one I mentioned above, it comes with ring terminal leads. You simply connect those to your 12V batt(s) and that's pretty much it.

There are two great video walk-throughs by Ohmmu showing you how to access the 12V batts in both one and two battery Rivian vehicles here:

https://www.ohmmu.com/rivian-r1s-and-r1t-video

If you use the actual battery negative terminal for your ground you'll likely need to recalibrate the windows and do a hard reset to clear the error codes caused by disconnecting the negative lead. If you use a different ground point for the charger leads, that shouldn't be necessary. The Ohmmu guy tells you how to recalibrate the windows at the end of the dual 12V battery video if you need to do it.

Thank you!

I have one of these to charge a battery for a pump sprayer:

Would that work?

Yup, that one should work for the single 12V batt vehicles :)
Holy smokes I just watched the video no way I'm doing that every night ?.

Have to read through the entire thread to see the trailer hitch option.

You only hook up the leads one time, after that you just plug in the charger when you want it to maintain your 12V battery. No error codes or recalibration needed after you initially install your leads going to the battery. It's a one-and-done type situation.

Great news! Just to clarify, was this tender connected via the trailer RV plug or a direct connect to the 12v battery terminals?
Directly to the battery. I’ll take photos when I get back.

how many amps are you using to charge the battery?
The charger reads the state of the battery and automatically selects either 2 amps, 8 amps, or 15 amps. Guessing with it being in a maintenance stage currently it’s at 2 amps but I honestly don’t know.

i'm doing my own experiment with my old 800ma tender and so far after 2 days i haven't lost anything when i normally lose 1-1.5% overnight. i hooked it up to a smart plug and can see that it's been using about 10W up until this morning since i really only drive the car on weekends

Interesting to read of folk's experience regarding the change in drain with a 12v charger in place.

I'm a bit puzzled by the VD on my R1T particularly after the recent 2024.27.01 update which seems to have increased the rate. I know that at least a few other folks have reported the same apparent increase, and rather than hijack this useful threat, will start another to try and get a better handle on whether this is real or merely apparent. I've also starting to keep a log and will post that in the thread.

To the intrepid 12v charger experimenters, keep up the good work and report the results often.
