I have a Gen2 R1T on order with delivery Sep-Oct (hopefully!!!). Does anyone know what the charger port configuration will be to be compatible with Tesla (NACS) and J-plug (CCS)? We'll have two EVs in the garage and we'll be doing some towing, so I'd like to get an extension. Seems like the best way to go might be a NACS-to-CCS adapter and a CCS extension to cover all the options but wondering if the Gen2 will come with a converter plug or if the port will somehow allow both.

Ah, never mind. Looking through other posts it looks like it will be using the adapter. So best to get a CCS extension and use the adapter and extension if needed for Tesla SC charging.

What are you calling a "CCS extension"? How are you going to liquid cool an extension cable? Just park close enough to the supercharger to plug in. Do your best to not block another stall; sometimes that won't be possible.

Oh, you're right. I was looking the the A2Z extension but that's just a J1772, which would work at home but not at a SC station.

With the port in front I guess shouldn't be a problem, even when towing. What's with blocking other stalls? I've seen it mentioned a few times.

Thanks

Yeah, a J1772 extension won't work for supercharging. J1772 extensions are fairly low-risk because there's not nearly as much power being transmitted and creating heat (11.5kW versus 215kw). A CCS extension will either dramatically limit your charge speed, be prohibitively expensive, or fail because it cannot be liquid cooled like the charge cable connected to the charger itself.

As for taking up two stalls; Tesla Superchargers are only designed for vehicles with charge ports on the rear-left or front-right corner. All Teslas charge from the rear-left corner. Rivians charge from the front-left corner. Because Superchargers don't have long enough cables, you typically have to park in one stall, and use the charger from the stall to your left to reach the Rivian charge port. This means you either have to park to the right of the last charger stall, or block the stall in front of you.
