I’ve had a couple of level three charging issues. Twice, we’ve rolled up to a level three charger (EVgo and GM) and we’re unable to charge. First time, hard reset fixed the problem. Second time, before we left, I did a hard reset. When we got there, nothing, not even after the reset. Thank goodness for a Rivian level three on our path home.
Anyone else having this issue? If I get an account to the different chargers, does that help? Help!

If it worked at the RAN charger it makes me think it’s not an issue with your truck. If your L3 charging module was defective it wouldn’t let you charge at any L3 stations. Are you sure it‘s not an app or payment issue with those other networks?

it could be user error. Each time I get there, plug in, run card, card is approved, then it says that the interface has failed in some way and to unplug and try again. I tried, after hard reset, to use a different charger and that worked at EVgo but not at GM. It’s frustrating and blows my confidence in longer trips.

That’s understandable. I’ve never used a GM charger but I’ve had similar experiences at EA and EVgo. The first couple times I think it was me not following the directions for initiating a charge carefully but other times it was definitely the chargers having issues. The only advice I can offer is to practice close to home and hope it works the same on a road trip??‍♂

I have used the GM/Evgo chargers with no issues. I even set up and use the Autocharge+ feature.

This is a frustration point for many folks with different public chargers. I promise you this is not how road trip charging with the Rivian typically is.

My suggestion is to use the apps for the chargers you want to use. It's much easier to activate the chargers that way. Also, it helps if you prefer plan your trip to use one or two different charging networks ahead of time. That way you don't have to fuss with too many different apps.

I have a video on my YouTube channel showing how I plan road trips. Many of the charging network operators don't have good "pay at the charger" systems. The cc reader at the charger is required for them to get federal funding.

Definitely download the apps for all the chargers you may use and have them setup and ready before your trip. It will save a time a lot time and hassle.

I'm not as familiar with EVgo (only used them once) or GM (not at all) as EA tends to be more popular around where I travel.

With EA there's several ways to pay that include swiping a cc, using Apple Wallet, etc. Both of those have been hit or miss for me. What I've found works best, and is pretty consistent, is to plug in the truck, open the app search for the location by location (you're at the station so it pops up), then select my connected charger and start the charge.

For some reason, that seems to always work and give me the discounted rate.

Maybe it's something like that for you?

ONLY TWICE? Holy cow, lucky you! I've only ONCE had it work correctly on an EA charger on the first try.

In my experience, I had lots of issues using the POS (Point of Sale payments interface to charge) at a few 3rd party EV chargers. Once I got the app for these networks I have not had another issue with them. Time will tell.

I recommend you download the apps.

I have most of the apps downloaded and often they work. I have also had to call the help number that is posted on the charger and only a couple of times were they not able to fix the issue. One exception, Francis chargers in Oklahoma. Several different chargers late one night and several calls to the help number until I was able to get enough charge to get to an EA station.

Thanks all, for the help. I’ve downloaded the apps and am connecting the. To the vehicle. Next, I will test charge at as many different stations to see which I can reliably charge from.
