Will Action Button on Iphone 15/16 work to enable Lock/Unlock ??

have an iPhone 13, so I haven't heard much about the new action button on the iPhone 15/16. Has anyone tried using it to lock or unlock the Rivian?

I'm asking because I'm pretty fed up with my R1T Gen1. It seems like the truck knows when I'm nearby and don't want to use it, as it unlocks on its own. But when I actually need to use it, it just won’t unlock without me opening the app. So, if the action button could help with this, it would be pretty cool. Has anyone tried it?

You can set the action button to a shortcut that locks the doors, but I don’t see an easy way for the action button to unlock the doors the next time it is pressed. You need a Set ActionButton shortcut for settings to toggle between Lock doors and unlock doors shortcuts. There isn’t one in iOS 18.1

You could have the action button launch shortcuts.

You can use Siri to lock or unlock doors via shortcuts.

You can also set shortcuts for tapping on the back of the phone. I have my phone set to two taps for lock and three taps for unlock.

This is how I learned that I have a habit of tapping my phone subconciously in certain cases.

I use my Watch action button to start HVAC, vent windows, wait, close windows, and then tell me it's all good to go. Just unlocking would be trivial, yes. I have a voice shortcut for unlock with a timer because I'm retarded and will forget it's unlocked.

I have an automation that runs at 6PM on my iPhone to execute the lock shortcut. This has saved me countless times from leaving the truck unlocked in my driveway. I turn off prox locking at home.

I also have the action button on my apple watch mapped to the unlock shortcut.

Yeah, I would caution others to be careful after you enable the back tap. I tried it for a couple different actions and found it too easy to inadvertently activate.

On a related topic, how are people setting up Siri to lock/unlock a Rivian? I have created shortcuts and they work from my phone and watch, but Siri will not recognize the commands (including synonyms I set in the Shortcuts app). I feel like I’m missing something here.

I used to write code for a living ages ago. I can’t seem to figure out the shortcuts thing very well. Anyway, I wondered if there’s some kind of conditional rule we can put in there to achieve toggle function for the door locks

Love proximity locking but I got real tired of my R1T unlocking and locking every time I walked close to it so I disabled it while at home. Unfortunately this then lead to leaving the truck unlocked overnight. I solved this with two automation shortcuts. The first is conditional and unlocks my truck at 7am if I am home. The second locks my truck every night at 9pm regardless of my location.

I really wish there was a temporary proximity disable feature activated by a double lock/unlock (ie twice within 5 seconds) then re-enabled with manual unlock/lock. This would solve a lot of issues.

I don't know, I've never used a case. I would assume so since it's probably using the accelerometer as opposed to any sort of direct contact sensor.
