I was driving this morning, and I needed to get my glasses from my center console, and I could not open it. This was obviously really frustrating.

Can someone hopefully point me to ways to either manually override the locks that have inadvertently not released? Any tricks to getting it to unlock? Any settings to check to be sure something wasn't inadvertently selected?

Any help would be greatly appreciated!

We've never had that problem - the center console in our R1S doesn't ever seem to lock, but I can help with the glasses issue...

I keep mine in their case in the little "perfect for a glass case" cubby under the driver's seat. it works really well. We keep a small travel umbrella in the one under the passenger seat. Not much else fits there anyway and this way I don't need to ever dig in the center bin for them because they are the only thing there.

Appreciate the organizational input. Not helpful for my current situation.

Apparently, when the car is locked, the console locks, as well, as a safety feature. For some reason, mine just did not unlock when the rest of the car unlocked.

The armrest doesn't lock, but it does use an electronic release when you push the button to open it. Maybe that is jammed or not responding to the button input. Try a soft reset?

The buttons on the console sometimes have a false click depending on there you press them. You will feel one click and if you press harder /further you will get the second click. I had mine replaced and a new one also exhibits this behavior.

When we say center console, do we mean the drawer or the armrest? I didn't even know the armrest locked (it never has in my 2023).
Yes, I am talking abut the armrest in between the two front seats.

And I do not think it is supposed to lock when properly accessing the vehicle. I think you might find it locked if you broke the windows to get into the car, not properly unlocking the vehicle.

This is all information gathered on the web. I welcome any experts to opine on this.

My buttons are unresponsive all together.

Each lid half of the armrest console has a switch. One of mine stopped working. The other works fine. Mobile service scheduled. Never experienced either 'locking.'

Had the console armrest doors lock us out for the first time while cleaning my Rivian yesterday. I don't think it knw we were in the car... doors had been open for a while for vacuuming and leather cleaning. Screens were dark. Had to depress the brake to "wake" and the console unlocked.

When we took delivery of Opal (our R1T), her armrest compartment was operated by only the driver side release button. The passenger side button did not work at all. I put in a service ticket, but since both doors still opened with the driver side button, it was not considered a priority issue. We used the vehicle this way for about a year and a half. We recently had a mobile service visit to replace Opal's 12 volt battery, During this service visit, the tech also replaced her armrest door unit. The tech told us that sometimes one of the buttons becomes disconnected and it is any easy fix. In Opal's case, the switch was bad and the whole armrest door unit had to be replaced.

Hopefully, the OP's situation is the easy fix. That's a bummer, though, as there is no access to the compartment with both buttons inoperable.

I have "unlock at home" set up and the console has always opened when the car was unlocked or when driving. OPs experience doesnt sound right. I would call Rivian.

Wait a minute. The console actually locks, presumably when the car is locked? I didn’t know that. Hmmm.

Yes, this is my understanding. Makes sense, too. Just need it to unlock when the car unlocks and when using the vehicle.
