I just got back from a 1200 mile road trip which was mostly pleasant except for the climate control which was doing its own thing.

First-- should the 3rd row be shaded as blue (cold) even when the front and middle rows are on heat? Kids said it was blowing warm air and weren't complaining but the blue color doesn't seem right.

Main problem-- the front air was alternating between HOT or COLD but changing the temp setting didn't affect anything. Fan speed worked as expected but air temp was either all cold or all hot. We tried sync'ing both ways but that didn't help. Outside temp was in the 30s so I had to stay warm using the heated seat and steering wheel. Turning on the heat even at 68-70 degrees would blast me out. I want to say things returned to normal later in the drive during daylight but outside temp also got a lot warmer, so not sure.

Anyone else experience this? Climate has worked fine previously, pretty sure not user-error unless something major changed in a recent update.

I can't speak to your second point, but as for this, it's working as designed. The 3rd row doesn't have any heating/cooling ability. It's just a fan that recirculates whatever is already happening in the cabin. Since it has no heating ability it just shows blue

I have a gen 1 R1t and I sometimes have the same issue with the heat/cold. It shows heat is on but it blows cold air. Sometimes I turn it off and back on and it seems to reset itself when I do that. Hoping latest updates fixes it this is my first winter with it.

I have had two R1T’s the first a LE QM and the second a DM. The LE’s HVAC was absolutely terrible. I usually ran it on manual, rather than auto, which helped. The DM has been an improvement but I still find manual less frustrating. While a pure guess on my part I think it has something to do with the vehicle trying to keep the batteries in the sweet zone temperature wise and the cabin temperature becomes secondary.

Does gen 1 use the same heaters for the cabin as it does the battery?

Gen 1 has a resistive heater, and uses the motors to heat the battery for pre conditioning. So no.

That's what I'd figured, so I don 't think battery conditioning would affect cabin heating at all

HVAC normally works very well, summer or winter, so this was an unpleasant surprise. The only fix was that the quieter AC lines were installed about a month ago, but I wouldn't think this would be affected.

I did have two other minor quirks on the drive. Lost GPS somehow and had to do a hard reset. A day later the center of the dash displayed only the Rivian logo and the speed, which got fixed after a soft-reset.

I didn't want to stop driving to reset the HVAC but considered it.

I have noticed recently that my R1T will blast hot air even though the climate is set at a fairly low temp - 67 or so. We have to drop it all the way down to the minimum setting to get it to stop and then gradually bring the temp back up to normal.
