I thought I noticed this before but confirmed it today, my Wi-Fi is being turned on automatically after an infotainment/software restart. Is this something new as of a recent update?

You mean a reboot of the system and not a new driving session? Yes seen this before. Several settings don't seem to survive a reboot.

I disabled WiFi yesterday as mentioned above and just noticed it’s enabled, again. No infotainment reset was conducted.

I wonder if this is a Connect+ feature ?

Well then yet another worthless display button is born on the Rivian.

Are you disabling it to try to save power or data? If data can you just remove your home network from the Rivian?

I've confirmed this behavior almost 1.5 yrs ago with my 2023 R1T.

According to the Rivian tech that looked at my R1T.. "you did turn the WiFi off, and it stays off till the next time you open the vehicle door. It then turns itself back on, it just happens so quick and just as the main screen is turning on, that to you, it looks like it stayed on all the time". He then proceeded to disable the WiFI, exit, shut the doors, lock it, have us wait 2-3min then from outside the vehicle he had me fix my eyes on the WiFi icon (or where it will be) on the main screen as he unlocked my truck and opened the driver door. He was hoping I could see the WiFI symbol with the crossed line on it before the crossed line disappeared indicating that WiFi was now enabled. We did the whole "lets pretend" experiment four times, I think I saw the WiFi symbol with the crossed line on it one time out of four, maybe. BS? Quite possibly. Try the procedure with your Rivian to see, but after that kind of kooky explination by the tech, I assumed the truck's WiFi always turned itself back on some hours after I had disabled it vs "trust us, it turns off and stays off.. it's just not really showing you that".

I guess if you really have to know, monitor the connections to your WiFi network in the house, note your vehicle's name, then turn off the Rivian WiFi and watch it drop off the "connected Devices" page. Just before you want to use the truck next time, check the WiFi "Connected Devices" page in your router. That will instantly tell you if the Rivian WiFI has indeed turned off and stayed off for the duration or did it turn itself back on sometime after you disabled it?

Interestingly enough, you can permanently disable the BT radio, unlike the WiFi radio, it will not automatically turn itself back on the next time you get in the vehicle.

TLDR: you can in theory disable the WiFi but it automatically turns itself back on the next time you open the driver door. There is no way around that and no way to change that baked in behavior.

I have Google Wi-Fi and can see it connected to my network. That’s how I noticed it both times.

@emoore I’m not trying to save data. I guess I got use to turning it on to apply an update and since I now pay for Connect+ feel I shouldn’t need it. I’d rather not remove it just in case I need it for some other reason.

I simply prefer the toggle off stay off. ?

I should turn mine off so Rivian has to pay for the data since the Apple Music handoff from WiFi to cell seems to cause alot of issues in mine...

It does transfer a large amount of data each time the vehicle wakes.

I have to toggle mine off after updates or resets only. But if I leave my wifi on it interferes with my hotspot built in and none of our devices connected work… only after I disable the vehicle wifi will the hotspot then work… not sure why ?‍♂

If you don’t need to save data then who cares if it turns back on. Seems like an unnecessary step for no real benefit.

I care (we all should) if a function doesn’t work as intended. How do we help Rivian improve things if we ignore its faults. It has become an unnecessary step now that I have to keep turning it off. It should have worked the first time.

Or maybe that’s how Rivian wants it. And that’s ok too.
