That sounds super! I think they are having their "hack-a-thon" this weekend (or next). Does anyone know if they're trying to incorporate any of the recent AI advancements reported in the media (chips, models, etc.) into the Comma and OpenPilot...OR are they just focusing on getting the existing units to be "compatible"/play nice with the Rivian??? I'm not a tech person, so I'm looking at this as the Comma being analogous to a computer (hardware) and the OpenPilot as analogous to a computer program that runs on Comma....this may NOT be a correct way to look at things. Any chip upgrades to Comma....or just tweaking OpenPilot to be compatible with Rivian? Thanks.
Yes, that's going on now. From my understanding, the roadblocks for Openpilot on the Rivian are figuring out the rest of the commands Rivian is using to manage speed and detect the blind spots so they can use Openpilot for distance control. A little more tuning for the wheel torque would probably help too. At least at this stage, it's a software issue. From what I've heard, the Comma 3X hardware isn't holding them back from improving Openpilot.

Do you think this guys knows what he is doing and the direction being taken?
Philbin - Autonomy & Al at Rivian (link) - He has some serious history.
I am sure this person is very accomplished and serious. As a consumer, I am done with promises, projections, future OTA features. I will pay for what is functional at point of sale and hope I do not wind up with yet another subscription fee.

I really do not care about what is coming "s00n" from Rivian or any other manufacturer. I want my Highway Assist to function as designed now. Can no longer believe promises from Rivian as they fight for survival; following Tesla script of over-promising and under-delivering.

Flame on, tear my logic apart, but that's where I stand. I miss MobileEye AutoPilot as it worked pretty damn well. Strongly considering OpenPilot from Comma.AI. SuperCruise is the best system I have used to date albeit restricted to separated [mapped] highways.

No flame from me at all. I completely understand. Thank you for your thoughtful reply. I've followed Tesla way too long and was suckered way too many times by promises. I had MobileEye in my first Tesla (2016 TMX) and did a lot of road tripping in that car!

I do not have close history with owning a Rivian yet but have been a big proponent for a very long time and before my current location I was in Northern IL. Strongly considering a Gen2 R1S once we get the funds for the retirement house lined up tightly.

I've followed Comma.AI for long time too. It is impressive and looking forward to them getting even more exposure with Aptera.

They can't see what you set for speed in ACC. That means they can't control the vehicle speed without it.

FWIW, this is the infotainment chip which is not relevant to assisted driving discussed in this thread. Gen2's infotainment system does need some improvement.

Not true, its related specifically to ADAS, as you can see it is doing neutal and image processing. The fact that their volume model (R2 and R3) has a computer several times more powerful than the relatively low volume R1 tells me they're going to encounter exactly what Tesla is with HW3/HW4 in short order.

This following video can confirm that Rivian has its ADAS and infotainment computing hardware separated and the hardware shown in the picture is for infotainment and not ADAS. I don't think Rivian will upgrade their Orin chip on ADAS hardware any time soon, at least not doing it at the launch of R2.

The neural and video processing is for Gear Guard, Drive Cam, etc...

Sorry if I missed this. I have 2 R1s. Do I just need 1 box and 2 cables or can the main unit not go between vehicles for long trips etc?

You could transfer the Comma 3X back and forth if you dont mind only having it in one vehicle at a time.

You would also need an extra set of mounts to be able to move the unit between two vehicles. These mounts will have one-time use adhesive on them, so you couldn't swap the unit very many times, if at all. (I don't know if they include extra adhesive in the box) If at a later time, you decide to buy a second Comma 3X unit, you'd only be out the $20 for an extra mount for this transitional usage.

Best way is to get something like the Chun Li mount if you want to move between vehicles. I am in the process of buying on just so I can easily put it out of sight in my truck. It is a little more money but will save wear and tear on the connectors.
