2022 R1T already on my 3rd windshield from previous tiny impacts causing irrepairable damage. one impact I was able to temporarily ‘fix’ with a kit.

Latest road trip going 70mph, and maybe a rice grain hit it and the next day there’s a 6+ inch crack!

there is no way this is normal, that in 2 1/2 years all 4 very minor impacts caused windshield failure.

Previous Rivian experience with the windshield was ‘our glass etc is fine’ you had bad luck.

I feel like Rivian is going to gas light me again and say there’s nothing wrong with the glass or how it fits on the truck.

There is absolutely something not right!

Im about ready to get rid of the truck cause it’s almost unusable on the highway if any speck hits the glass causes breakage.

In the pic you’ll see the impact is less than 1/16” and barely made a mark.

I'm not paying $2k every six months for new glass.

any advice for how to proceed with Rivian?

Plus I’m 2+ hours from an SC and they take forever to get appointment.

Statistically, someone's going to have more broken windshields than any other Rivian driver.

I have 3 cracks I've lived with for 8 months. Out of line of sight, out of mind. lol. TBF, one of mine is from a 1 inch piece of gravel...hard to avoid damage with that one. You definitely have bad luck though....sorry man.

Two thoughts. FIrst, I assume you know it's not the size of the impact. In fact, emergency tools to break a car window pretty much come to a point.

Secondly, as @Dark-Fx notes, clusters like this are one of the ways you can tell if something is random. We humans are wired to see patterns...it's a survival thing. There is a book called A Drunkard's Walk How Randomness Rules Our Lives that I recommend. One of the examples in the book is that the author breaks his class into two groups. One of the groups flips a coin and records the results...heads, tails, tails, etc. The other group simply writes down the results based on imaginary flips. They do this 100 times while the professor is out of the room. When he returns he is able to, with almost complete accuracy, determine if the person actually flipped the coin.

Statistically speaking, you would probably expect someone to have this occur four times. Not to say you haven't had bad glass (statistically speaking, some windshields probably do have defects) but you've also had some really bad luck.

Thanks, I deal with stats everyday. It’s also probable, there’s contributing factors from the glass or the vehicle.
my 3 other cars have gone years without any cracks over this time and similar driving conditions.

What really is worrisome is how minor a hit has caused all 4 cracks. And that EVERY impact has caused a crack. Literally every time the glass has been hit, it has cracked. That’s very very very unlikely to be random.

That has been my experience as well, very small bits of debris causing large cracks. I was on windshield #3 when I traded for an R1S and avoided #4 only because I was able to get a quick repair job done. I've had far worse hits on other vehicles that didn't even leave a scratch so not sure what the deal is with Rivian.

I’ve lived in CO my whole life, I’ve had 10 different cars, and I’ve never had a windshield this damaged over a short period of time. (Less than a year) 5 chips and 3 cracks. I sense something is off.
I've lived in CO the last 20 years and it's been by far the worst state for windshield cracks in my experience. Every single car I've owned has had multiple windshield replacements. My Rivian has a nice long crack on the passenger side for the last 2 years but like another person said, out of sight out of mind.

It’s not just Rivian. Virtually all truck/suv windshields are made of more breakable glass than they used to be. Less tough glass costs less, and is replaced more often, leading to greater profits. I have three chips (repaired) in my R1T windshield, I replaced windshields twice in my CRV, and four windshields in my Durango. My BMW had a more sloped windshield and held up better.

OEM windshields are the worst, as car manufacturers look for the lowest price.

I've had three Rivians over the past few years, and two of them have suffered windshield cracks from very minor rock impacts kicked off by one SUV and one minivan. I'm not sure if this is normal, or if the glass is just very cheap. There are other Rivian components which I can verify are somewhat cheap (the speakers, the nav. data, and the cameras chiefly among them), and Rivian has even gone so far to remove very inexpensive 12V adapters from the vehicle, so I wouldn't be surprised if they cheaped out here, too. The battery is so expensive that everything else must suffer in quality to keep costs in line.

I currently have two chips both repairable and have had no cracks in over two years of ownership and 54000 miles. I do feel bad for the ones who have had many more but I do think it is random. I know as soon as I fix these I will get another. Seems to happen to me that way no matter the vehicle.

Never had a problem with Rivian. Both of mine have taken some good hits. Had an Audi with a crack and an explorer as well.
