Launch mode lowest ride height. It’s still scary fast in normal ride height and all purpose.

my quad is a BEAST 0-60 but it doesn’t have as much oomph at highway speeds. Tri motor has an extra 200 lb ft of torque over the gen 1 quad and in my experience has more power at speed as well.

In the Gen 1 Quad on AT I get 3.5 0-60 verified with Dragy and in line with true dragstrip times.

0-60 with 800+ Hp is all about throttle mapping and traction. For the gen 1 quad the sport throttle map is great and will dump pretty much full power as soon as you hit it as long as the battery is warm. For us without launch mode we then need to make some choices on traction settings. in most situations traction on will be the worst. The computer will pull back power and err on the side of caution to avoid any wheel slip. Reduced is pretty good for most normal roads and the computer will actively try to limit wheel slip by reducing power to slipping wheels. If you have a good surface, nice warm day and grippy tires then traction control off will be best.

Launch mode beats all of these as it is designed to interven just enough to get the best time.

AP is not designed for 0-60 and will result in a slow time as the power comes on much slower and you will not have full powere regardless of traction untill over 45 or so
The yellow bar is actually a completely accurate read out of power.

I have an entire detailed thread about this but the gen 1 Quad will actually not use full power to the front motors in sport mode over about 45MPH. my assumption is this is to keep the rear bias for sporty driving. I am incredibly curious if the Tri motor (and gen 2 quad) will give full power at all speeds in sport mode seeing as it has a true mechanical rear bias
In my experience, judging by the power bar, the tri gives full power above 45 if you lay on it.

Gen 1 QM ....doesn't matter you still need to stop at red lights and stop signs...in 2 months you won't care...honestly best power is doing 85 and floor it to pass people who are playing games is a better feeling ..
Or already going 20 mph over posted, keeping a reasonable distance between the car in front of them, when somebody come up on their bumper.

Did you try Sport mode by pressing the brake pedal first then full throttle and release of the brakes ? No need for launch mode.

The throttle mapping on Rivian is not as good as Tesla. They deliver the power gradually vs punchy.
That is disappointing. Don't get me wrong, I very much like my R1S, but my previous EV's would slam me into the seat.

The launch pulls 1.2gs according to the little info thing. It launches harder than my Gen 1 did, and my wife's i4M50 feels slow compared to my tri, when it felt faster than my quad.

One thing I will say is that speed tends to feel a lot more when you're in a smaller vehicle that is lower to the ground (Like Model 3/Model Y). So even though 0-60 is indeed better, you do feel more removed when the vehicle is so high off the ground

Thats probably in sports mode. We want that pull in all purpose mode and maybe a chill mode for when the wife in the care. The throttle mapping is the main issue.

Doesn't that defeat the purpose of Sport mode? Plus a lot more people would be spinning out and crashing without the stiffer suspension to handle all that torque.

My quads in sport are 3.2 in sport with 22’s. It’s a damn punch to the gut and makes the women scream. If your Tri isn’t doing something similar something is way off or you have been driving Plaids and Saphires too much.

Per AI for quads. So assume all models have lower hp in ap.

In Rivian quad-motor vehicles, Sport mode unlocks a significant performance boost, increasing horsepower to 835 and 908 ft-lbs of torque, while All-Purpose mode provides a more balanced and efficient experience with around 700 horsepower.

Here's a more detailed breakdown:
  • Sport Mode:
    • Horsepower: 835

    • Torque: 908 ft-lbs

    • Performance: Offers a more aggressive and quicker acceleration, with a launch that is quicker than All-Purpose mode.

    • Ride Height: Engages the lowest ride height setting for optimal stance.

    • Other Features: May tighten steering and offer a stiffer ride.
  • All-Purpose Mode:
    • Horsepower: Around 700

    • Performance: Provides a more balanced and efficient driving experience.

    • Ride Height: Typically uses a standard or higher ride height setting.

    • Other Features: Offers a more comfortable ride compared to Sport mode, especially with larger wheels.

I think you’re way off here. Sport mode in my gen1 T quad is 3.0 seconds, all purpose around 3.3-3.4. This is confirmed with Dragy so it’s definitely accurate
If you can legitimately feel the difference of 0.3s kudos to you, I know I cannot.

I've done a lot of R1S tri motor launches mostly cause I'm a lucky guy.
For the strongest "hit" off the line you'll need to be in sport mode, launch control, lowest height, stability off, rear motor temps under 165 degrees (about)

Motor temps and suspension height feel like the biggest factors in the "hit"

Tesla do seem to be have better (more aggressive) throttle tuning, but I think some of that is also masked by the shorter accel pedal travel they have. The Rivian has quite a "long" throttle, and it almost feels like you have to pre-load it a few percent if you're already under way to get a good "hit"
