When to proactively replace the 12V batteries before they fail??

What is the longest anyone has gone between the Replace 12V Battery warning light and actually having the batteries replaced - without your truck bricking? I'm one week into a 3-week wait for a mobile tech... considering making the drive to a SC if they can't get me moved up.

I think that as long as you keep your truck plugged in when not in use, you should be fine.

UPDATE (04/03/2025): I just received the "Replace 12V Battery" warning light with about 1500 miles left on my battery warranty. Mobile Tech appointment scheduled for 3 weeks out... was told as long as I don't let SOC dip below 20% then I should be fine. Fingers crossed for next 3 weeks but glad to get the batteries replaced under warranty.

I think that as long as you keep your truck plugged in when not in use, you should be fine.

UPDATE (04/23/2025): I successfully made it 3 weeks after the "Replace 12V Battery" warning light appeared. Mobile tech swapped my two 12V batteries yesterday afternoon. During the warning light period I did keep SOC above 50% and kept plugged in to maximum extent possible. Other than high phantom drain every day, no other problems. YMMV

Rivian recently replaced my 12V (both) when I got the message. They did not charge me and I was at 38k miles when they failed. I had to go to the Phoenix service center to get it done quickly, they were quoting 3 months out for a mobile visit. Service center did the work in 90 minutes.

They know they have a problem with their 12V batteries, they should be extending everyone's warranty grace period IMO. Other brands do exactly that when they have a known problematic component.

I completely agree with @NY_Rob ... if you've had a replacement on a battery, then that should reset that battery warranty to 0. Who's to say the second battery will be any better?

According to recent forum posters, the new Rivian's come with a different brand of 12V battery now. So I guess it's been a significant enough issue that Rivian changed their OEM 12V battery supplier. It also could mean the new 12V batts might not fail so often.

My truck is in for service right now. I still have the original 2 batteries that were installed 12/2021 with 57K miles on the truck. I inquired last October and now about batteries but they state that that my batteries don't fall into the replacement campaign. I totally understand since its well out of the 3y/36K mile warranty. I've asked them to check the 12v battery health while it's on it's 3rd week at the SC. I noticed that it has been cycling on for exactly 5 hours between sleep cycles throughout it's time sitting in the queue. I most likely will get the Ohmmu's and replace it myself when I get it back (hopefully in the next few days.)
