Where to source center tailight in tailgate

I believe so but I am not sure. For instance I live in California where, if I am not mistaken, they are obligated by law to allow me to repair myself. I didn’t press them hard on this so I don’t know if they would’ve just sold me the light bar if I did. I never ended up replacing it and then got a Gen2 (the damage was very minor and couldn’t justify spending $1100 on it).

I just had it replaced on my R1T after bumping into something and cracking mine.

$1065 for the tail light.
$190 for the cap on the R1T lift gate that is one time use (all the clips break when you remove it)… and it has to come off to pull the large panel off to get access.

If you open a service ticket, they will ship you the parts if you ask them. But if you are near a service center, it takes less than an hour for them to fix it.

Did you do it yourself or take it to the service center? I just bought one on eBay and was planning on replacing it today but I couldn't find anything on how to remove the back panel to get to it. My fear is what you mentioned about one time use of the top trim.

My invoice has the top trim. You can’t get to the screws without taking off the panel, and you can’t remove and reinstall the panel without breaking the top trim piece.
I will say, the new top trim piece is better than the original one. I still wish one of the aftermarket guys would come up with a better end piece and back panel.

I think there would be a market for an aftermarket, stronger back panel and top trim piece combo for the R1T tailgate. Even cooler would be an aftermarket tail light bar with additional lights or same functionality but made of a stronger material that does not crack as easily.

Anyway, found a near pristine condition center light bar on FB for 700cdn. I'm going to use some double sided tape on the overhang portion, provided I can salvage the top cap, if not, and if a new cap from Rivian doesn't come with it, I'm going to put tape on that prior to reinstall.

Looking forward to getting the grit out of my tailgate internals too, as one member aptly put it, it's like a rainstick opening and closing the thing.

Be careful getting used light bars on eBay…, the smallest crack and they will fog up first time it rains. I have been looking at trying to recondition my old one since it still works but they don’t come apart easy.
A brand new one is less than $1100 usd.

Agreed! Those top pads are way too easy to damage. We don't have a replacement on the books right now, however, I can get you a new replacement in the meantime. Feel free to shoot me a message should that be of interest.
