Multi-factor is optional. If you don't "want it", don't turn it on.Multi-factor authentication is not for me but yes on the on-demand preconditioning.
Can we just pick what we feel like it’s important rather than get push with everything else?
I saw that, charging improvements mentioned on G1 Max and G2 Max & Standard. What about the other packs for G1/G2?Whenever the release notes mention improvements specific to Large or Max packs, those of us with Large+ are like ¯\_(ツ)_/¯![]()
Probably to keep up with the Jones’s…..Multi-factor Drive? Maybe, just maybe, this could be ever so slightly useful to fleet customers? Seems rather ridiculous for consumers. Is there a rampant problem of R1 car thefts or car-jackings? Why was this a priority for the software team?
It isn’t so much about saving energy as it is about saving brakes. It is 4000ft descent from my regular winter playgrounds.A massive bunch of meh for me. Still waiting on launch mode for Gen1.
The most useful of the limited improvements would be battery conditioning, which I might be able to really use 1 month out of the year. Most of the rest of the year my battery temps will be at least 70F. So maybe useful for some.
Maybe along with the energy stuff, I could finally have an estimate at battery level at my destination instead of the almost totally worthless DTE.
Charging times will still suck for the trucks compared to Tesla. Thank god I never use my truck to road trip much or to tow longer distances.
I think conditioning the pack might use more energy that you reclaim on the way down unless it is a really big hill. Last time I used a supercharger, even with my pack pretty warm, it consumed 6% of my charge level on the 4 miles to the charger. I would have been better just skipping that charger, slowing down a bit, and I could have made it home. I thought I'd stop to be safe but it wasted a ton of energy. A lot more than my Teslas do to condition before supercharging.
The notes say "time-based passcode", so it sounds like other 2FA applications where there's no cell/internet connection required.I will be curious to see how the MFA functions when in a remote area with no cell or internet coverage. I guess as the "owner" I could turn it off. But my wife would not have the permissions to do this.
Ah...thanks for the clarification. The notes say "time-based passcode", so it sounds like other 2FA applications where there's no cell/internet connection required.
Unfortunately the key does not need to be in the truck in order for the truck to be started and driven off. I have tested this. I put my phone 12 ft from my truck and then I got in the truck started it and put it in reverse. Shocking, actually. The truck should know if the key is inside the cabin or not. But it doesn't apparently. Can someone explain to me why multi-factor drive is important?
All these complaints about development time are unfounded. They likely leverage the same development LOE for their web MFA, which should be very similar.Who in the world asked for MFA??? What a waste of development time when they know there many other features people have been asking for OR better yet work on optimizing the UI and fixing bugs.
That's a very narrow-minded point of view ... just because you don't know or understand the reasons for the business decision doesn't make it wrong or a "waste". Did you ever consider that maybe MFA support in the vehicle software was a *requirement* for the software JV? Which would mean Billions of dollars was at stake - IF that were the case (and I have no reason to believe this is true, just throwing out a possible hypothetical) then it is something they would implement whether the average customer finds it useful or not. And it has clear implications for fleet use regardless - the EDV/ECV business is a huge part of Rivian's business plans, which people tend to forget. I wouldn't be surprised to learn that some form of MFA is already in use in the Amazon vans, and now they're just exposing that capability in consumer vehicles. Again speculation, but with just a tiny bit of thought it's quite easy to imagine scenarios where this feature makes enormous business sense. And what about the R2, which is also intended for the European market? Do you have any idea at all of the regulatory requirements in Europe? Perhaps MFA is required or will be required over there in the near future under certain conditions? Again, I don't know, and I'm guessing neither do you. But *I'm* not judging Rivan's move out of my ignorance like you are - I'm assuming that I don't know everything and also assuming they have a reason that I don't know about. You, on the other hand, go straight to assuming that this is just some software engineers dicking around on something they find fun, at the expense of the real work that they *should* be doing. Do you really believe that Rivian is run that way?Who in the world asked for MFA??? What a waste of development time when they know there many other features people have been asking for OR better yet work on optimizing the UI and fixing bugs.
