After looking up some recommendations for coolers that fit the R1S subtrunk, I found a reddit post, and decided to make a video of myself putting those recommendations and instructions in action.

Hope this is helpful for anyone else looking for a refrigerator/freezer/cooler to fit the Subtrunk. And I was able to fit essential Costco staples--the Kirkland Signature tetrad of frozen vegetables, frozen fruit, frozen chicken and frozen shrimp--into the cooler, with room to spare (in this case, I put dumplings, on the road, it'll be ice packs)

check it out:

ARB 47qt ZERO is my choice. It's bulletproof, and fits perfectly with the rear seats up, and an inch to spare between the fridge and the tailgate

that fits inside the Subtrunk? Seems a bit tall.

ICECO APL 35 fits better and has a better compressor.
Nice, I saw that cooler in some people's builds and considered it, but ultimately decided to go for this Bodega because it was a cheaper option. Hopefully that doesn't bite me in the butt later!

I decided to go with the Iceco APL35 when they went on sale during the July 4th holiday. So far I love the fit and finish, and feels as if it was designed specifically for the R1S subtrunk. The only downside I would say is that the lid doesn’t fully open due to the transition lip holding up the subtrunk cover. I had to get “creative” and ended up flipping the fridge where the top of the fridge opens up to the back of the car … it’s not as bad as I thought as it gives me full access to the fridge, but ofc it’d have been better if the height of the fridge was slight shorter (or taller?).

Did you come up with a better solution?

I’ve got a Euhomy 32 quart sitting in my subtrunk. Not the biggest but performs well with not too bad power draw, Bluetooth monitoring, has room for ventilation, and is easy to access - especially with a slide but even without one.

Thanks for posting that - I'm looking at the Euhomy 32 and was pretty sure it would fit in my R1S subtrunk, but your video confirmed it.

Just wanted to give you guys an update— I am now 25 days into a five month cross-country car camping trip with the R1S and the bodega cooler has performed splendidly. The only potential problem to come up is reminding myself to toggle manage power to stay on every time I go in park to ensure the cooler keeps running. I have it freezing ice packs, which go into my Oyster cooler, which serves as my `refrigerator`. It also keeps my chicken, blueberries and meal-prepped rice frozen, so I can do quick meals out of the air fryer in the frunk.

Hope everyone else has been happy with their sub trunk coolers!

Is the Iceco APL35 worth the higher additional cost compared to the Bodega cooler?

Got a hold of the Iceco APL35 to test out. It does fit in the R1S subtrunk, but needs to be shifted slightly to the right for it to sit low enough. There is a small rectangular hump on the left side of the subtrunk that raises it up just a bit—see pic.

While it’s a great fridge/freezer and it does fit well in the R1S subtrunk, the biggest problem I have with it is not being able to open the lid to access the contents. This means that I need to take out the fridge to load and unload contents of the fridge.

Anyone else with this model? Curious how you solve this problem.

Stupid question for you...what's keeping the lid from opening? I suspect it's because the hinges are right at the top of the subtrunk. If that's the case, could you put a couple of 2x4 pieces under it to raise it 1.5" when you're using it? Would that give you enough clearance to be able to open & close it when you're using it and then you could move the 2x4's when it's not in use and let sit on the bottom of the subtrunk.
