It'll never happen. But the NACS guys have to carry adaptors too.Now that Rivian is manufacturing their own NACS ports for the 2026 R1S/T and for the R2 and R3, will they offer a port swap to pre 2026 vehicles, or are we doomed to forever carry around adapters...
I would be surprised if they offer it.Now that Rivian is manufacturing their own NACS ports for the 2026 R1S/T and for the R2 and R3, will they offer a port swap to pre 2026 vehicles, or are we doomed to forever carry around adapters...
It actually requires adding extra contactors inside the vehicle in order to meet safety requirements. CCS is safer because AC and DC are physically isolated.1) it's not just changing a cover plate. Sure, the communications protocol is CCS, but aren't the AC and DCFC pins joined on NACS? There's got to be some pretty involved under the hood changes, presumably requiring a full onboard-charger swap?
what if they are Cadbury chocolate bunnies?Of all the potential reasons to feel "doomed", not having an NACS port ranks just below being smothered to death by baby bunnies on my list.
Yes.Now that Rivian is manufacturing their own NACS ports for the 2026 R1S/T and for the R2 and R3, will they offer a port swap to pre 2026 vehicles, or are we doomed to forever carry around adapters...
also, they would have to start providing a CCS1 to NACS or would it be NACS to CCS1 adapter....either way.....a waste of $$$$$Yes.
You also need to convert not only the port but the rest of the vehicle
Joke aside, I actually think its a benefit to have CCS1 with an adapter over the native NACS Since it gives you more flexibility of charging stations.
