Sorry to hear this happened but thanks for the heads up.
I use the frunk to transport take out food. I’ll be way more careful with the egg drop soup!
Just don't forget about stuff up there - I ended up with moldy dog food from spills in my Gen 1 frunk. Fun smell to get rid of (gets brought into the cabin by the AC).

I am quite frustrated with Rivian. To create an outdoor adventure vehicle and have the whole system disabled because of some “spilt milk” in the trunk sounds unacceptable. Why wouldn’t the connectors for the wiring system be sealed? I feel like I should be covered under the warranty or my insurance company should cover me. Disappointed that this has happened and no longer trust the vehicle.
Yikes, sorry you are in this situation. It seems Mr. Murphy has struck again. You should be frustrated with yourself and your insurance company, not Rivian. They did not spill the milk. The connectors are not sealed because their function does not deem them necessary to be sealed. They are in a sealed environment, not exposed to natural occurring sources of moisture, contamination, etc. Using sealed connectors is going to increase material & manufacturing costs unnecessarily. Maybe a poor location choice by Rivian for the harness connectors but, I think it is rather now that the vehicle does not trust you or your passengers to secure/transport your cargo safely ;)

You have to wonder if the vague "something spilled" is an attempt to try to reduce the likelihood of the issue not being covered, in spite of both Rivian and Geico refusing to do so.

The reality is, it should be relatively easy to narrow it down to a grocery item, and from that, what is typically purchased, or construction items like wood stain or the like.

"Gee wiz, my 1 gallon tub of molasses seems to be empty... where could it possibly have gone between the grocery store and home??? And what is this odd sticky substance all over the rear of my vehicle?... Oh well... time to head inside and ignore it"

Maybe it was something innocent like a spilled coke slushii/slurpee that just made its way to the worst spot?

Cmon @keri toss out some guesses!

I think it is the main harness. I don’t know exactly what spilled, but they said it was sticky tree sap like.
I read this entire thread and still no mention of what the "liquid" was. 🤷

Hi Mountainbikedude,

actually, a lot of things go in the trunk of my car. Everything from what ski boots skis, dogs plant material, groceries , garbage being taken to the dumps . I did have some organic fertilizer that might’ve been the cause that spilled, but I don’t know 100%. Nothing was corroded. The liquid fertilizer that was in the vehicle was about six months ago when it spilled car has been fine until last month..

My question is if you knew you had an incident with a caustic liquid spewed all of the rear of the vehicle why wouldn't you clean it immediately? Why let it sit and seep? it's bizarre. Doesn't it reek inside? What about mold? Something isn't adding up here. OP needs to fess up.
No, it was a dog vomit or a drunk spouse.
I hundred percent don’t know exactly sure because I put a lot of things in the trunk of my car. I have a WeatherTech mat that gets washed regularly. I was transporting about six months ago some old liquids that were in my garage. Taking them to the dumps. They could’ve been an organic liquid fertilizer. But there wasn’t really much to clean up inside my car, especially on the WeatherTech mat. It just was dry. Nothing smelt or was corroding.. but the bottom line and back to the point an accident occurred in caused damage to the wiring regardless of what the substance was, I would think a comprehensive claim to the insurance company would be enough. I have had weather damage insurance claims in the past decades, bear damage to a Past vehicle, taking a hose and washing down the windshield of a car because of all the pollen, and instantly the windshield broke and all have been covered under insurance. Why would this be any different?

negligence usually isn’t a reason for an insurance claim being approved. Keep in mind the more claims you file the lower the odds are of having your next claim approved. It’s all math and models, they will reprice the risk, they will make subsequent claims difficult if you have a statistically aberrant claims history and some day you may be denied coverage. Not saying this to be mean, it’s just an objective perspective.

If you want to know why your claim was denied call the claims adjuster on file - should be tied to your claim or in your denial letter. No one here can tell you definitively.

what liquid where you carrying and how was it being transported. Seems like it isn't just some water but something else. Most vehicles wouldn't survive having liquid in these types of INTERNAL parts.

I’ve had many things spill in a vehicle over the decades and never had a car shut completely Down . Anything from coffee to ice chest leaking , kids sippy cups to name a few . Still not 100% but there was a small amount of organic liquid fertilizer in the trunk area that leaked onto the water proof mat about 6 months earlier , never saw any evidence it went anywhere else .

The above is a fair point.

To counter, I had many things hauled in my Xterra over the years, similarly, leaky cooler, muddy biking gear, wet yard waste, epoxy (that sucked) none had any ill effects on the vehicles performance until one day, I had some Strongbows in behind the passenger seat and on my way home, the box of 8 broke open (not by me trying to reach for a cold one, but it was hot out) and a lone can rolled under the passenger seat into the control unit that runs the radio controls and Bluetooth module. The can broke on the corner of it and sprayed all over the unit. Initially my phone kept randomly trying to dial out, then I lost functionality all together.

Point is, you can have dozens of incidents that amount to nothing more than a mess, it just takes one, in wrong spot, at the wrong time, to cause things to go sideways.
