For the last few weeks since the last software update, my Gen2 R1S has been occasionally showing a message "software update failed". Similar messages have appeared on my mobile app. I did a hard reset last week and it came back up without issues.

Today I decided to reach out to Rivian support about the issue. They instructed me to perform another hard reset. It went as-usual, eventually counting up % to complete the restart...then everything went dark. The screens and interior lights will not come on. DRL headlights and hazards (from the reset) remain on. Hazards will not turn off. Electric door latches still work.

Support directed me to leave the truck alone to allow a Sleep Reset to occur. I waited an hour and no change.

This is my first big issue with my Rivian. I love this truck. Now I'm awaiting instructions on them towing the vehicle to Duncan, SC. Apparently the Charlotte service center is not yet operational.

The worst part of all of this is I will have to go to Duncan to get the truck when repairs are complete. Vehicle failure, caused by service instructions, towed far away due to their own Service Center deficiencies, costing me loss of my vehicle for undetermined period of time, and I'll lose a day from going down there to fetch it.

Sorry to hear of your issues. If the DRLs and hazards are staying powered on, there are probably other subsystems powered on as well. You may want to plug it in if you have charging available where the vehicel is, to prevent draining the battery.

The hazards and DRLs have since turned themselves off. The door handles are still presented, but the doors won't open. I plugged in a L1 charger and nothing happened. No light on the eject button.

The L1 may not have enough oomph to wake it up for a while. Do you have an L2 available instead? You may also now have a dead 12V which would certainly make it a little more complicated to wake, but not impossible.

Rivian will deliver it to you if you pay the tow fee. From the Franklin center to my house it was 1,100 dollars.

Yes, I have a 48 amp Tesla wall connector and an adapter...but it's on the other side of the garage. Something worse is going on. It wasn't even trying to charge from the L1.

Now the 12V system is dead. I jumped it through the cables next to the trailer hitch so that I could get my kids' car seats out.

The onboard charger needs 12V to work, IIRC. You may need to jump it, make sure it's awake, then put the L2 on (if it'll reach) or the L1 worst case. Good luck - what a PITA.

They quoted me $800 to tow it back. I get it - that's the actual cost of a 100 mile tow.

But in the context of Rivian operating one phantom service center in Charlotte for a long time and having a new official SC right around the corner (other folks reporting already received support there)...it's a tough pill to swallow.

That's the extra weird part. I had it plugged in while the 12V system was still operational.
Even now with the 12V system jumped it won't initiate a charge. The HV battery was ~65% when I performed the reset, so perhaps something is wrong with the HV-LV charger.

Thank you. Realllly frustrating.

Really interesting they use sleds and not a wheel dolly for the rear wheels.
The first tow truck showed up with nothing but the truck, sized it up and left.
Rivian support said they specifically required wheel-lifting dollies. Then they contracted a new company that showed up at ~7:30 last night...with skates instead of the dollies. I spent an hour and a half helping them get the truck out of the garage. I'm a bit worried about the tires and steering, but we'll see.

Had my car towed back in November by a local company since the one Rivian sent was taking forever and the car was bricked on a busy road in rush hour traffic. Watching what they had to tow the truck was absolutely brutal. However, when I got it back, everything was fine. Wishing you the same.
