I use Weavegrid with my Tesla.

If Rivian's implementation is similar, it will require active participation from your utility as well. Or Rivian might be doing something different.
I used WeaveGrid when I had my Tesla for, among other things, a better ToU rate. Unfortunately, WeaveGrid BGE doesn't have integrated charging solutions yet with Rivian here in MD, so I assume my charging cost at home will be the same as typical offpeak usage meaning no ToU rate. I'll know more when the next bill arrives.

From an email with WeaveGrid BGE:

"While we've recently announced our partnership with Rivian to develop grid-integrated charging solutions, we don't have a specific timeline yet for when these integrations will be available to customers. We're actively working with Rivian to make this happen and will keep our customers informed as we make progress."

I wonder if you can tag this to location. Pardon my ignorance, but is this smart scheduling tied to the charger or the vehicle? My primary home has different times for peak rates than my other.

Looks like a safe bet on the weekend vs week day but will cross my fingers for you with the multiple times slots per day, that seems less likely.

So confused by these statements, you can set a different schedule for the weekend today. Mine has been doing that for the last 2 years!

Weavegrid is interesting. It is tied to the vehicle in this case. It is also compatible with a few chargers.

Part of the program (at least through my utility of XCEL Colorado) involves letting the utility decide when to charge your car. You can restrict it to off-peak hours, and tell it what time you want the car charged by. XCEL might choose to charge the car at midnight one night and 3am the next night.

They give an annual incentive ($50 for for the first year and $100 every other year) for participation.
Every utility will factor in rates and incentives differently.

I posted on reddit, but I wish this can be setup to talk to my solar and only charge on excess (adjust charging rate) I dont want to shell out money on an OCPP charger for this.
SCE pays $.02 / kw generated by solar so its always better to charge while my panels are producing rather than pay $.37 at the lowest nightly rate.

I think this is a little misleading. They can throttle your power or shift times during times of higher demand, true, but you can easily override this so you are still ultimately in control of when you charge.

I didn't mean to imply you CAN'T override it.

It is slightly confusing at first. You still set your charge level in the app, and you can always select "charge now". But the scheduled times are overridden by Weavegrid, and you have to log into Weavegrid for some of the scheduling options.

My utility incentives are contingent upon at least 80% of charging throughout the full year being at the time Weavegrid sets.

Weavegrid is very interesting. Everything was fine when I had my Model S. No ToU relationship with Rivian, but if I had a Chargepoint, Wallbox or Emporia charger I would get ToU pricing. Seems a little ridiculous that my Tesla Gen 3 charger doesn't qualify.

Please describe how you accomplish this today? I don't see a way to achieve that. My only options are to choose "daily" which means whatever schedule I set will be used 7 days per week, or "weekdays" which means whatever schedule I set will be used M-F, but the Sat/Sun will charge all 24 hours of the day.

This is wonderful news! I've had TOU rates at my house for years, and my old Tesla took full advantage of it - wouldn't start charging until after midnight. But in a pinch it would also use 6am to 2pm or 6pm to midnight.

IIRC, Rivian considers Friday a weekend...
It looks like in the picture Friday is considered a weekday. Weekdays on the top of the pic are set for 9pm-12pm which is what the bottom portion shows for Friday.

Rhode Island Electric is supposedly going to TOU charging (rather than flat-rate). They are in the process of upgrading all the meters in the state this year.

I save a ton over selling back solar energy to SCE, by only charging between 7am and 4pm when I'm actually producing solar power. I used to come home and plug in, so that we could charge over night and pay the rate of $0.24... then while at work, I would sell back my daily production to SCE for nothing, then buy it back from them at a higher rate at night.... screw that.

I went through the same experience the first year....now I sell them nothing....nothing more annoying than to hear how pro green energy Calfornia is but allows most of the solar power to be stolen by the power company. It also helps to turn your amperage down and watch the meter...24 amps charges 10 miles per hour and keeps you from paying for any power from SCE...takes longer but generally get all I need with 3 charges per week.

I guess I won’t be able to take advantage of this since PSEG is not a supported utility?
