Wow how time flies. Time to renew the annual plan. I'll do it but I honestly don't know if its worth it.

Not only nickel-and-dimed on subscription fees, but then forced into specific ecosystems. I already have my desired musical ecosystem. What I DO NOT WANT is another subscription on top of that. Even if Tidal /Apple Music were 100% free, that's another account (that could be hacked, leaked or compromised), more of my information being tracked, and another bunch of playlists to curate that'd be separate from the ecosystem I use when working out or listening to music on my computer. I'd like to stay on my ecosystem, that's already within my budget and purview, that I've been curating for as long as I can remember.

Just seems silly to compromise AND pay for the opportunity to compromise.
Connect + is not a music subscription it’s only paying for cellular LTE in your truck. That’s it. The music apps in Rivian ecosystem are free. I have Apple Music and I pay for it through Apple not Rivian.

Sweet!
Even LESS reason to pay for it :)

Yep. If it's not worth it to you then don't pay for it. But it's worth having a cellular connection for many (including me). Like has been mentioned earlier, it's like having a watch or tablet with cellular; worth it to some and not to others.

So, been driving around in the Rivian Service Center Loaner for the last two days.

I miss my data connection and my Spotify integration. I'll renew after this.

But the access to WiFi probably saves me roughly half that on mobile data. It’s hard to measure, but it’s not nothing.
WiFi doesn't work well, at least not anymore (but the SC said it works fine). Too often I end up using my cell phone as a hotspot, so I'm on the fence as to whether I'll renew. i could use that money to pay for a better cell phone plan.

I signed up for C+ for a year. Having the wifi hotspot in the car is cheaper for me than trying to get a tablet plan with hotspot for less. It is also cheaper than what Toyota is asking for.

That's odd. I've actually found the truck Wifi seems to work faster than my cellular data. Although it is hard to measure.

I do wish there were a way to keep Wifi on when the rest of the truck is powered down. It's not a big complaint, but that would be an occasionally nice convenience.

If Rivian had one time fee for few hundred of dollars to have the service for the life of the vehicle under my ownership, I'd do that over annual renewal.
Be realistic - try telling your cellular provider that you are willing to pay them a "few hundred of dollars" for service for the life of your cell phone.

Why don't you let the subscription lapse for a month or two and see if your use cases require it. You can always sign back up.
I am thinking that's what I'll do. I am not happy with the cellular reception that my truck gets - I'll have to see how much I miss it.

I take it that you are a type of person that keeps one's vehicle for a very long time.

My comment was for as long as one owns it. Think of all the leased vehicles. If the C+ fee was embedded into the lease, that would do it. Most leases are 2~4 yrs.

My observation is that many people owns a vehicle for less than 5 yrs, especially at the price point of Rivian. I realize the national average is over 8 yrs but that includes all price points. High end vehicle buyers go through vehicles more often based on what I see.

It's not as unrealistic as one might think. So if you think its unrealistic, then have options for 3 or 5 yrs.

If Rivian gave you the option to pay $440 for three years or $700 for five, would that make it more palatable? If your vehicle were totaled, after three months, you'd have lost all that money. Since the renewal is automatic, it requires almost no effort from you, so unless you think that Rivian should give you a huge discount for paying upfront, what's the point.
P.S. Yes, I plan to keep my truck for the foreseeable future. Prepaying the Connect+ would be even more reason for owners to keep their truck, rather than upgrade.

Hmm...this is VERY telling. Don't you have like 7 of these vehicles?? So, it's only 2/7ths worthwhile! You heard it here, folks! :D
