There's another thread where somebody posted the official install instructions from the service manual or whatever and it had a note about needing to use a cut off wheel to remove what looks like a steel peg from the truck body in the bed to make room for the cover, and that was for "vehicles built before may 22, 2023"

That isn't harness related but wonder if there is a connection to the timeframe for compatibility.
Mine was built 4/20/23. I am eligible.

I wonder if there is some misinformation out there. *Guessing* that if you have the rails for a cover they can retrofit.

Yeah, that's not it. I have the MTC which means I have rails and they told me no.

Reasonable price point. Inquiring do see if mobile service can accommodate.

Also a bunch of other neat new drops into the gear shop as well. Appreciate the post making us aware of the addition.

I'm doubting it will be mobile service compatible, as they have to remove parts of the bed and rear seat to retrofit (at least for the v1 and v1.5 PTCs).

I'm going to be calling Rivian to see if I'm compatible (25xxx VIN) when I'm not on vacation in Central America.... Don't want to think about how much a phone call from here might cost.

I will be DIY replacing mine when it breaks with roll-up for $1k. $2300 for labor? There's no way that's a 9 hour job.
I'm curious how you go about ordering the components. Also, I assume if one does the work themselves, you lose the 2 year warranty? or at least the warranty work is more scrutinized??

Interesting on the build date retrofit compatibility.

I think you mean $2k and $1,300 labor. Either way, nice savings.

Partner Portal.

No warranty. "Self insured" as we say with govt work.
The whole install process seems pretty straight forward having reviewed all the procedures you kindly posted.

Only difference between manual tonneau rails and PTC rails is as I assumed, the open end cap on the manual channel is removed and swapped to a closed end one. The rest is fairly trivial just a bit time consuming with some attention to detail when aligning the rails at the end for the PTC.

A member of the service team at Rivian called me after the chat session and explained that there was a range of vehicles that were built without the wiring necessary to support a PTC. Kind of surprising, honestly, but if that's the case it's unlikely the ones showing as incompatible will ever get it. Part of me wonders if this is related to some of the other running harness changes like various 12V outlets being present or not. My truck has the frunk 12V, for instance, but not the 12V under the dash.

23 Gen 1 R1T 23xxx vin (1 12 v battery, no frunk or front row 12 V power port), eligible and booked a service appointment for an install. The service rep said not all 23xxx vins are eligible. Also said it was a very popular reason for service calls today

Called and confirmed that my '22 (9k VIN) IS compatible. Just need to figure out if I want to be proactive and pull the trigger or wait for mine to stop working at an inopportune time. 🤔
