Doesn't seem like any early trucks are compatible. Maybe they added the wires in 2023 and later? And it wasn't included in the original builds.
My truck, a mid 2022 (VIN10264) just went in to have it done today. I should have it back early next week.

Let’s hope the fourth PTC my truck will have had does the trick 🤞🙄

Here’s the work order for those curious:

Called an confirmed that my '22 (9k VIN) IS compatible. Just need to figure out if I want to be proactive and pull the trigger or wait for mine to stop working at an inopportune time. 🤔
Just tell them yours intermittently doesn’t work. My first and third ones (V1 and V1.5) wouldn’t work when it was hot/heat soaked in the sun. Or it wouldn’t retract without me smacking the second slat hard at the right time (to clear the upper trim gasket on the slot they retract into). I feel like that would be a hard one for them to disprove. It’s also not easy to capture on video (I did a few times, but you could say it’s intermittent and therefore not feasible).

I didn’t have a true failure until the first time I cycled my first v1.5 replacement (literally the first time—and right in front of the Rivian employee who had driven my truck a couple hours to meet me between where I live and the SC to exchange for their loaner 😂).

My third one was field installed shortly after the failed second one, which took two technicians and a whole lot of finagling to have done in the field (I think the immediate failure of my first replacement and some other mistakes on that work order helped me get the leverage I needed). This one developed the same thermal expanion issue that would prevent it from retracting without use of force on the second slat right at the right time (when it hangs up on the gasket, but before the motors stop fully due to resistance).

Are they using this one for warranty replacements from the old one?
They are on mine! 4th one, hopefully the last 🙃 It went down to Chelsea today and I should have it back by Tuesday if all goes well.

See, under 3 hours!

I'll work on building a cart/estimate for all of those parts.

Okay I'm back. It looks like they're replacing everything with new parts, even if you have existing parts that could work, like bed trim. But that's just $327 of the total price. All parts total $2487.68, and with labor at $250, they must estimate 3.25 hours of labor if it's $3300. Honestly, $800 for professionals to install is a good deal.

ETA: that $999.99 is just for the cassette, literally nothing else. I was hoping it included motor and other parts, but it does not.

I'm really getting tired of screenshotting my screenshots in order to upload them... I can attach a 15mb file but can't attach a pic easily? Ugh.

The service advisor told me it was a 6 hour job, but having had a v1.5 field replaced in under 4 hours, I think your guess is probably closer to the actual time.

I was told it would take about 3-4 hours and that I could pick it up same day, so sounds about right.

I have a 23 vin 217xx, told not compatible, but they said they could retro fit with the manual cover!? This sucks, as that and the slide out gear tunnel were the two things that I really wanted in the truck, and now have neither!

Just called SC, the guy said my T isn't compatible for the PTC.

2023 RIT, VIN 181xx.
Do you have the rails and slot for the tonneau cover pre-installed? I selected my R1T from the R1T store and has a VIN 182XXX with the 12V outlet in the frunk. Additionally, I have the rails and slot too. I think the production date may factor into compatibility but could be wrong. I have a maintenance appointment on 09/22. I will ask about mine and will report back.

I just got a call back from Rivian, and they told me that my they misspoke, and that my truck was compatible, so I'm booked for next month to have it put on! Totally stoked now!

Weird, wonder if they "misspoke" about any others. What was your production date (on the door sticker)?

assuming you meant the gvwr sticker? That has a 3/23 listed in the upper right corner. I purchased from the store, since they had one that matched my original configuration minus the tonneau and gear tunnel slider.

I bet they're realizing a wiring harness isn't that hard to install. Problem is that isn't in the retrofit guide. I'll post back if I see updates to the retrofit instructions.
