That's on the road to Cypress Mountain, just outside of Downtown Vancouver. I know it well from my morning Rivian mountain rips!Amazon has finally brought its Electric Delivery Vans (EDVs) to Canada!
This is one of the first one to land north of the border last week, with the first batch scheduled to be deployed in British Columbia in the next few weeks.
Think they're also up there doing some EDV Sport Mode package delivery?

Good for Rivian (said as a stockholder) but possibly bad for the actual drivers.
Last winter the RDV's were new to our area.. so when I could, I asked Rivian van drivers who delivered Amazon packages to our house how they liked the RDV? To my surprise all three that I asked said it was nice to drive but they were very cold inside. It seems, the drivers were directed to "minimize heat to the bare minimum" or in some cases even "turn it off completely" in order to be able to complete their run by the end of the day (due to the heat burning up so much energy). Now, that's here in downstate NY (long Island actually) which is quite a bit warmer in winter vs. Canada where the vans are going to be deployed. There they will have less range right out of the gate and they'll need even more heat to combat the cold as well. I guess we'll see how it works out..

Actually, NY is colder than Vancouver in the winter months (not by much though). Though once they spread them past Vancouver to just about anywhere else in Canada that changes!

The vans are run by vendors who are Amazon partners. They can certainly set whatever rule they like for their drivers, but that has nothing to do with the vans and everything to do with their terms of employment. Oh, also, Amazon worked with Rivian to design these vans specifically for Amazon needs. Range in particular, was chosen by Amazon. Rivian could have put a bigger battery in there, but Amazon did detailed studies of their routes and determined what they wanted as an optimal size.
In general, as has been reported many times by many people for a couple of years now, the drivers love these vans because they have AC, unlike most other delivery vans. UPS drivers went on strike to try to get AC, for example.
Why do you think that cold is more of a problem in Vancouver than it is in the NYC area? I assure you it's just the opposite. Vancouver is one of the warmest places in Canada. I've lived in both places, BTW, so this is NOT speculation. Snow is not common, and usually limited in depth. Nothing like NYC and the surrounding tri-state area.

I asked a local driver recently (now that they're in my area) what he thought. Worst thing he had to say was that if the battery on the fob died, the internal cargo door wouldn't open? That's certainly a problem, but not the worst in the world. You'd think they'd have a manual way to open it? LOL.

LOL. The comments i saw about the range for Rivian EVs in Canada, with it being colder here are not familiar with the Vancouver area and our seasonal temperatures. Vancouver, with regard to climate is about the same as Seattle which is just a couple hours south. The lower mainland, say from Squamish to Chilliwack - Hope, is a temperate zone with winter temps averaging around 0 C or 32 F....
We see snow for a few weeks through the average winter. (maybe a bit more on the fringes of the area) Certainly when you leave the Van lower areas in Canada it is a different story, but deployment in the VLM is a great test for Rivian delivery van usage. I think the elevation changes will be more of a drain than the climate.

The Great Bear Rainforest is 500km in a straight line(definitely not a straight line to get there) from Vancouver, but is an incredible place.
The Vancouver area would be temperate rainforest if it hadn't been logged out in the 1800s.
Now it's just condos.

what, a city is not considered a rain forest? surprise!
I agree that the city is not a temperate rain forest, you have to get off the freeway to get into the trees, funny how that works.
