I can only imagine that their repair specs forgot to mention that the tow link bolt should be tightened while the vehicle is on the ground, under load, and at "normal" ride height. Tightening the bolt in the air means the bushing is under torque load when sitting and will wear/tear far more rapidly. Those bolts are frequently "one time use" which is why all they're saying is that they'll replace the bolt. Because to say "we hire mechanics that dont know that toe links should be tightened under load" would be a horrifically embarrassing admission. Even YT mechanics know that!

Not surprised, when I had the rear open that bolt was a pain to get it threaded correctly with a rachet wrench, if they used an impact wrench on the bolt I can see how easy it would be for the tech to get it wrong by forcing it in.

Last July, I had the hub knuckles retorqued as a part of a recall. Later in the summer, I had an alignment issue that cropped up causing my rear tires to see extreme, uneven wear, necessitating a realignment and a new set of tires. Shortly, after that, in November, I had the rear shock replaced, as they were leaking. While the recall does reference service prior to March, 2025, based on my history, I’m a little concerned that this toe-link bolt problem may be an issue with my ‘23 RiT.

I should add that the culprit with my rear alignment was the toe setting was way off on both rear wheels. Don’t know how this toe link bolt would impact that. This was a development that happened over a relatively short period of time. I had seen no unusual tire wear for the first 1 3/4 years of driving.

My take is toe link bolt sets the toe. So if it wasn't torqued correctly or was tightened to set to the incorrect toe angle spec, then yes... the bolt would affect your rear alignment. And in vehicle dynamics, toe affects stability at speed.

I missed it. Did it say how the affected owners would be contacted? I did have an alignment done at a SC last year. That would be the only time I knew of for them getting close to that bolt on mine.
Same here. I had an alignment done in early Feb. 2025 at the Eastvale SC in SoCal while on a trip. They said the alignment was off but they didn’t mention having to replace any parts. The alignment has been dead nuts on ever since.

My 22 R1T VIN is not listed as being affected according to NHTSA. My NHTSA app listed this recall but didn't flag my VIN as being affected.

It may not be in the database yet. I‘m not sure how long it takes for NHTSA to upload new recalls notices.

It says notification for impacted vehicles will begin in February 2026

You know, it'd probably be a cleaner cut lemon case with a Cybertruck. Hmm.
Until I did a buyback with my Cybertruck I had no idea how easy it would be to lemon law a Rivian… given that they usually hold your vehicle for a week before even touching it and tend to have so many Initial quality issues.

For Texas at least, more than 30 days in service before 24k miles means you can request a buy back. I ended up putting 53k miles on mine before they took it back because the process was so slow. Basically it was a free Cybertruck since they can only deduct for 24k miles…

Someone on a forum even mentioned doing a CT buyback initiated by the service center but in my situation all I did was send a certified letter to Tesla and then wait. After a few months they sent a reply to initiate the process and it took almost a year to finalize it. So lemon lawyers are overrated in an era of Gen AI …

It's a surprisingly high number of vehicles, but I suppose they are also including any service where there's even a chance that they touched that bolt. Alignments probably being the biggest one I would think.
We had a HV battery replacement a few mos into ownership in 2023 so I wonder if we are impacted. No notice received…

I spoke with a service advisor at a service center while dropping off my R1T for another issue this morning. He stated mlre vehicles would be included in the recall than just those that had service done in the timeframe listed 😏 Made it sound like most if not all vehicles would be checked.

That is the right way to go about it. Don’t assume anything. Check them all. You just never know what you might find out/learn.
