Not tired of waiting at all. I've always planned my next vehicle purchase 4 to 5 years out, so in a sense it's always been a 4-5 year wait for me.

Hello potential Rivan buyers,
I am a reporter at the New York Times and I am eager to talk to Rivian customers. I wanted to better understand the market for Rivian vehicles and find out why you'd want a Rivian R1T or R1S over other EVs that are on the market or coming to market. And I wanted to get a sense of how long you might wait. Please email me on [email protected] if you can chat. THANKS A LOT! Peter

Personally, I think the best course of action is to lower all expectations, forget about delivery and this forum for about 3 months :)
?This is solid advice… though Im failing at it so far

I just see nothing out there competing with the R1S right now. Not sure what could sway me, maybe if Chevy would put out a Tahoe EV I could be enticed but pretty sure I’ll see the R1S before that would happen anyway.
The Tahoe would be a good match for size, and SuperCruise seems like a good match for Driver+, but then things start to diverge from my perspective.

First, I want something truly off-road capable and I don’t think any Tahoe comes anywhere close unless GM changes their suspension strategy. Second, GM would probably limit the content on a Tahoe to protect the GMC Yukon Denali from the internal competition. To my eye, the GMCs are just too flashy so that theoretical EV is not appealing, either. Third, the idea of moving away from a dealer model is a major plus to me.

On the other hand, a GM product will almost certainly come with space for a full-size spare and Android Auto/CarPlay so… maybe? :bandit:

We signed up on November 28, 2018. We ordered an R1T Explore. As Rivian wants to do the Adventures first, we have been pushed to a first half of 2023 delivery date.

Actually, we don't mind this as we will get to see a bunch of trucks out there before we have to commit. We are hoping that all of the early production snafus will be worked out in the next year.

I signed up on 12/21/2018, order #4700, so now I am starting on my 4th year of waiting for my R1S and I am beginning to question if the wait is worth it. I had one year on my Land Rover Discovery when I ordered the Rivian so I had that vehicle to enjoy during the wait. I have had a test drive in the R1T and that renewed my enthusiasm but now my patience is growing thin. Many other EV's are coming to market and will be readily available before it is my turn to have an R1S. Is anybody else getting tired of waiting?
I feel your pain and frustration.

11/27/18 Max Pack R1T

Not tired of waiting, but am tired of...

Being told you're first (originally MSRP and pack size delivery priority).

Then told you're last (Max pack now 2023???)

Then not told anything (called by CS January 10 to downgrade for earlier delivery, now ghosted).

Other then that... I don't want any other vehicles, nothing even remotely interests me. So I'm just gonna have to wait... and complain about it.

I wish my wife would get the 2023 Range Rover PHEV, but wants a 2022 Navigator instead. That's a beautiful vehicle, but I would never get it for myself.

Died of old age during the wait
The only worse thing Rivian could do for customer loyalty than repeatedly miss deadlines (with terrible comms) is release a crappy or unreliable car before they’re ready. So I hope they’re using this time to get it right.

I’d buy another car, but what else is out there that’s all electric, seats 7 comfortably, and isn’t the ugly as sin Tesla X? The lack of competitors is really working to their benefit.

Funny to think that if I’d leased a car to tide me over when I put down a deposit 3 years ago, that lease would be expiring right about now, and I’d be trying to fill the gap until “may/June” when I should(?) get my R1S. In some ways, I’m glad I held on to my ailing bmw instead of replacing it for a placeholder. Other than maintenance costs (which add up) it will suit me just fine until delivery, whenever that is.

I sympathize that you've invested roughly 4 years ago. But you need to remember this company is 4 months into production mode and has had no previous production experience. If you believe this will change with in the next 2 months, I have really bad news for you (or anyone with that expectation). I haven't dived in yet, so I know my wait will be about as long as yours. I'm not fretting despite how badly I want my truck NAO. I know better and rather wait for this company to hurdler over their first production blues.

I don't mind the wait (I know they're trying to fix the bugs) but am not sure I can wait much longer. I have an early December '18 reservation with the Max pack. Through the years my old Silverado has become a very old unreliable one. I'm currently waiting for it to be towed to the mechanic for the fourth time in the last six months. Two of those were with a horse trailer behind me. Another year and a half is a long time. ?‍♂

Considering what people are paying for vehicles these days at stealerships, I will happily wait for my R1S LE. For me the Ford Lighting is the closest viable alternative and look how those customers are being treated. Not to mention a comparably equipped lighting costs more BEFORE stealership "market adjustments". No thanks. I will wait for my Rivian. Shit I sold my Tesla last May thinking I was making room for my R1S, boy did I miscalculate. In any case, I have a reliable spare vehicle (Ford Fusion). I can wait.
