Nothing. I'm having a hard time justifying paying $2,500 for ADS without some new features.

R2 is the main focus. Doubt we'll see anything for the R1 for a while.

This will probably be the new normal for software updates.

No. They're released whenever one is ready and not adhering to a set schedule. If one is coming, you'll read about it on riviantrakr's blog because he has sources inside, not only for content but also when it's OK to talk about it.

Yeah I wonder when an update to handle merging vehicles will happen. Seems really aggressive.

Its been a minute since the last one, anyone heard anything?
Using the past as a window to the future, the first clue will be an update to the phone app followed by the vehicle update 7-10 days later.

While it was "exciting" for a few years to get updates every month, it's hardly reasonable to expect that pace to continue going forward. While I would still love to get a usable "valet mode", maybe "PIN to drive" and updates to the sound system (which have varied widely over the past few years), I'd also be OK with ongoing regular bug fixes (like since the last update, for some reason if I turn on auto folding mirrors which I turn off for the New England winter so they don't get frozen stuck, the drivers door handle stops operating entirely which also prevents the truck from locking - turn that back off because it was the only thing I had changed and everything works fine (yes, i did a full reset also).

We received a phone app update on 3/20 and no vehicle update this time.

A lot of the expectation for an update was created by Rivian with the coming “early 2026” promises.
Yes, someone over there said that. However, if it's not ready, it's not ready. No amount of handwringing is going to matter. And, I'd rather they release it when ready than prematurely and broken. The various owner/enthusiast platforms are inundated with enough complaints of various things... need more signal, not noise.

I feel the pace of updates was creating problems because they were definitely pushing stuff out that wasn't fully baked. I'd personally rather features took a back seat to fixing bugs and doing more testing, because they not only get egg on their face every time they break something (like the Gen 2 HVAC) but it also takes ages to get any of that shit fixed, usually on the order of 3-6 months. That's a long time to have customers pissed off at you and over time the cumulative rivian customer pool has been continuing to grow. So a 2023 screwup affected far fewer people than 2026.

Maybe it all is a symptom of the R1s taking a back seat. Especially the Gen 1s now that their numbers are forever doomed to be a minority even among the halo product line. It's probably also being afflicted by the inevitable forking of gen 1 from gen 2 since stuff like the autonomy they're pushing can't even operate on it, so even less is getting done with the same staff.

But if you had to "guess" what you will be talking about in your upcoming Rivian software release video, what would it be 🤔😉

I believe it! I just haven’t noticed this because I don’t do UHF until i am on the road/freeway lane already. I feel there are too many things happening at freeway on ramps and merged that may require quick actions and decisions - I learned this from my Tesla days. Back then, a lot of freeway merge accidents involving new owners not understanding the limitations of the autopilot/FSD.
