I was able to answer one of my two questions about the R2 at the Venice event yesterday. I confirmed that the R2 has a soft close frunk lid but the person I spoke to could not say whether a Dynamic Roof was available. It did not look like any of the R2’s there had a electrochromic shaded roof.

To me the soft close frunk provides 90% of what a fully powered frunk lid would. It pops open and the gas struts lift the lid up hands free. Closing it requires you lower it down manually but you do not need to push down on it to close it.

Day to day I have rarely used the frunks on our Teslas because closing it requires a careful, 2 handed push.

The frunk automation was covered in one of the YouTube videos. The powered up is helpful when hands are full so hopefully you don't have to put groceries or gear on the ground to open it. And yes, the closing action is much better than the Model 3.

I don't use the frunk much on my Tesla, but may get more utility out of it on the R2.

Not technically a powered up - the only powered part is what releases the latch, then the upward motion comes from gas struts/"springs" like on most modern hoods.

Thanks for the clarification / correction.

If it's not powered, I would want to use it regularly. The front of the car is usually dirty and I don't want to touch it. Same with the button for opening it on R1. I never use it. They should have had a button on inside, like almost all powered hatches do.

? On the R1 you can open and close it through the touchscreen, app, or fob (if you have one).

You can even have Alexa open the trunk for you as you're getting out of the car, then it will be fully open by the time you get around to the front. Or ask Alexa to close the trunk after you get in and are fastening your seat belt.

Nice! I hadn't tried that one. I know some things don't like being "opened or closed" by voice assistant. I haven't messed with it in a while but I know my Google in the house refuses to open or close my garage door because of "security". I guess that's to stop someone from breaking in your window and yelling in "Hey google, open the garage door", LOL. 😆

I mean, I don't use the button. They should have one on inside of the trunk, like you you have on R1s hatch for example.

While I use the key fob, using it is so 1990s. My 2009 car had optimized everything to not require ever touching a fob. Worth noting, Rivian won't even give you a fob anymore with the car.

Idk how well they work, but cars have hatches that open with gestures.

Wow, had no idea someone wouldn't want to touch a dirty button on the front of a car. I need to move up in this world, ha! The rear hatch button on my current vehicle is dirty all the time, It's just a small area of my finger tip that I can easily wipe to my thumb and its gone. Never crossed my mind that there are people who would turn their nose up to such thing. The more you know I guess.

Easy to get. There are several companies implementing features for this. Feel free to stick it up your nose after touching it
