I was able to purchase Rivian Care back in late 2025 as R1S was nearing 50K miles (2 years of ownership). Close to 61K when I had a thermal fault/AC not working issue.
Service center 1st determined it was due to a faulty active grille shutter. Upon further inspection, tech also found both front carpets wet. SC then filed a claim with Rivian Care/Assurant. Took a week for adjuster to come onsite and approve the repair estimates (~$6k).
Repairs includes the grille shutter replacement, AC box, insulation, carpeting etc.
You are supposed to pay for the repairs after approval then Rivan Care/Assurant pays you. You also need to submit paperwork and etc, but the overall process is actually trouble free. There are conflicting steps from both Rivian Care phone support and service advisor. Phone support tells you to create an account at http://www.autoclaims.com/ and file a claim which is incorrect. You go to https://vehiclecareplan.com and setup account (useful to track claim status but nothing else to do here as process is mostly between SC and Rivian Care).
Steps if repairs are done at SC.
1) SC files claim
2) Adjuster approves repairs
3) Depending on how long repairs take, you may get payment by Rivian Care/Assurant before paying SC.
From what I was told, process may change in future where claims and payments are handled directly between SC and Rivian Care.
