From the pictures, Forest Green and LE Green look the same to me. Not a perfect match. Looks like LE Green is a wrapped Forest Green. Color is not something I see well. I can see the large difference between Granite Gray and Halfmoon Gray. It is stark.
The Forest Green in person is a beautiful color and the one my wife likes. I have yet to see LE Green in person.
If you're near a Service Center I bet you'll see some old Gen1 Launch Green examples around the lot. There is no mistaking the two in person. FG is very dark and metallic, LG is more olive and goes gray in some lighting conditions. FG has grown on me over the years but, being a dark color, it does show dirt like crazy. At the moment LG would be my R2 choice since I can't get it in Red Canyon or Rivian Blue.

That's weird to me that Borealis won't be a launch color. It has been in production already on the R1s. I wonder if there is some behind the scenes technical reason for that. Even though it was always touted as a short term color option, two months always seemed to me way too short of a time for it to have been available on the R1s.
Different materials can show color differently, it's hard to get a perfect match on bumpers and the adjoining metal parts, especially when they aren't painted at the same time and get matched later.

Heavily saturated colors are the worst for this, which would explain why Forest Green and Borealis are the ones they aren't delivering right away. They have the most color saturation out of the available colors.

If this is true, I have come to terms with it. Launch Green is my pick of the litter assuming it won't be a stupid upcharge when the configurator goes live. Wife likes it, it's growing on me and it would be something different. I think it would actually look sick with the black interior and AT wheels.

I mean, a more muted green color doesn't necessarily make is a Hyundai :p

My wife and I see it more like a "granny smith apple green" so in that light, the launch green has actually grown on me. This Hyundai is more "light mint toothpaste" so a bit different. All about perspective.

Not seeing Borealis listed at all is a bit concerning for those who were planning on that color.
Yeah I just read that email and there was literally no mention of Borealis at all.

My wife thinks it’s going to be used as a “surprise” when the configurator goes live, i’m biting my nails off because we were so looking forward to Borealis on our LE.

If so that’s dumb. I stand by my statement that the more information they release, the more I’m disappointed. The sky isn’t falling, it’s still going to be a fine car and a nice increase in sales for Rivian, but announcing two years ago and still having all of these “coming later” caveats is…interesting.

Agreed, she’s not defending them either, just copium 😂

We’re planning a backup at this point but they really just need to come out and say it already, all these question marks do is frustrate people before making a significant investment into the product that’s supposed to cement a place for them in the market, the way they’re going about it is not pleasant.

I think it's literally just to reduce headaches while ramping. I mean they're only building like 25k of them this year, right? Dial in the lines then add options later. Standard manufacturing playbook.
Advertising is also a marketing play, they have the reservations for initial interest and beyond their initial capacity, but “I saw this on the road” interest is hopefully something they aren’t dismissing because people turn their heads at unique colors, almost nobody turns for something black, white, or gray.
