Rivian assistant is a nice alternative to no CarPlay. I thought I would miss CarPlay not so much in the last 3+ years of owning my R1S. The turn signal is something to adjust too, it becoming a common thing for cars.

Does Rivian Maps now allow you to build a route while offline, or download music on Spotify and play it offline?

Can it find wood-fired pizza (only) places along your route, or places that sell freshly roasted coffee?

That’s what CarPlay and Android Auto users have been able to enjoy in their "non-software-defined" vehicles for quite a while

I have never done this with CarPlay or Rivian so not sure but the system is powered by Google so maybe. Can always play your Spotify via the bluetooth connection to your phone if you are offline.

Does Apple CarPlay/Android Auto use AI, because the R2 will have Google Assistant soon. From the demos it looks quite useful.

Agreed and if they aren't going to do AA/CP (they never will) then they need to separate out the applications and be able to upgrade them without having to wait for a full vehicle upgrade. It took a bunch of months to fix AM because they had to wait for the vehicle update cadence. AM to me is still buggy with music quality dropping or cover art disappearing which is frustrating.

FYI... monostable turn signal stalks have been in vehicles for well over 20 years now. They were originally used in European luxury models but have progressed to more mainstream vehicles over the years.

It can easily find Wood Fired Pizza and Coffee, at least the Rivian Assistant version can, I am coming from an R1T and you could legit have a conversation with the thing if you wanted to, and keep you entertained for hours.

To me that is the best thing about cars like this, that get updates. The R1T I had at the beginning didn't have the Turn Signal Cams in the Driver Display, or the mirrors didn't tilt on reverse, or it didn't have the assistant, which could send and receive texts or add appointments to calendar. Just be patient, and you will have it all....

Thoughts on the sound system?

I’ll preface that I am not an audiophile. I can’t tell the difference in levels of quality of good systems, but I can tell when something is bad. The system sounds good to me. Someone here on the forums had pointed out that you can mess with the EQ settings and customize everything. So I had a buddy of mine, who is a true audiophile, take a ride and listen to the system for a few songs. He thought it sounded good and we plan to take some time in the future to listen to 10-12 different types of songs and customize the EQ to make it sound even better.

To me though, the standard setup of the system was good.

That level of specificity is limited/controlled by the descriptions/metadata entered by the business owners. Rivian Assistant will surface such data if available. Here's the early example where he just asked for restaurants near an upcoming event in his calendar.

Yeah , they will pay google to fetch this data from their maps api most likely

The turn signal stalk isn't my favorite. Every month or two, I still instinctively flick it left to cancel a right turn signal, only to realize it has already auto-cancelled and I've just activated the left signal instead. I understand why they designed it this way, they wanted a software defined stalk that can automatically cancel the signal during freeway lane changes. But it still catches me out occasionally.
