Just received text msg in title from "56839". Interestingly, Rivianroamer dashboard shows 12V in "normal operation".

Original 12V has already been preemptively replaced in January 2025, during appointment for unrelated issue (correcting alignment of doors). Since I've been noticing the front end to sit low after being parked 4-5 days, I've made an appointment with Lake Forest, CA SC (not far from HQ). Will update thread as I learn more.

I'm approaching 2 years since purchase and Rivian service called me last week saying there was evidence that my 12 volt (single battery) was showing evidence of early failure. They scheduled a remote visit date for free replacement. Not sure if they actually noted the pending failure or just want to replace as warranty expiration date approaches, but either way, I'm on board.

I didn’t get the text, but two weeks ago I got a call from Rivian Service saying they wanted to replace the 12V in my single-battery Gen1 R1S Qaud “as a precaution”. Mobile service came out the next day and replaced it.

I was a little surprised to get the call, since it had been replaced once in September, 2024, and the 12V Battery Health status has consistently shown NORMAL_OPERATION in my Home Assistant integration for Rivian dashboard since I set it up over a year ago.

I would love to know what data points Rivian uses to determine when a vehicle is due for a 12V battery replacement. I would also love those data points to be exposed in the API. :)

I will ask them when I receive contact from SC. My guess is they are doing another preventative campaign. Batteries are probably cheaper (and a business write-off) than bigger problems a failed one could lead to.

Well, there are at least a few of us with deliveries in 2022 w/o replacement. Fingers now crossed!

I am guessing one of the big indicators may be DC to DC inverter time spent. Which, now make s me curious if I could even detect this via number of minutes vehicle is awake when it should be sleeping.

I'm watching this thread as I'm on the original 12V battery in a Sep 2023 Gen 1 R1S (49,000 miles). I've been wondering when it's time to go in for a preventative replacement.

For those of you above that mentioned a battery health check, could you please elaborate on the software you are using to see this? It sounds very useful.

Would not hurt to ask. The first replacement in January '25 was added to an existing appointment, when the appointment was confirmed. I was not contacted like this time. Mine was built on 5/30/2023.

Hm. Prior to Saturday, I hadn't driven for about 6 days and Gear Guard was off. Saturday, I made a grocery and car wash run. Sunday, I drove 18 miles each way to the Orange, CA RAN. Truck couldn't have been awake much. We did have a bit of a heat wave here.

If you have Rivian Roamer Plus it'll show how often your vehicle was awake.

I use Home Assistant as the backbone of my smart home, so the Home Assistant integration for Rivian (Unofficial) is perfect for me. I set up a basic dashboard with several pages of the metrics provided by the integration. It's totally free to install and use, and all the data is saved locally so I can poke around in the metrics and view historical data whenever I feel like it.

If you're not running Home Assistant and/or don't feel like managing data and dashboards yourself, the best alternative IMHO is Rivian Roamer. I haven't used it, but I've read and heard lots of good things about it.

They replaced mine last week (and took care of the suspension torque recall and a few other things). Very glad they are doing this proactively!
