Hi All,
I’ve been reading the forum for months now (occasionally obsessively) and was starting to get a bit nervous when my number was called last November. In particular I had concerns about the reports of low speed tocking noises, loose bolts, bricking/12v drain, and a variety of other complaints on the forum.
Despite these concerns I decided to take a late ‘22 delivery (forest green, 21”, BM interior, underbody shield, spare, VIN 146XX) to snag the tax rebate before the clock ran out.
There are loads of other “early impression” threads which I’m not aiming to recreate. Rather I wanted to write for anyone out there contemplating final delivery with slightly cold feet to report my experience.
I think many posts here suffer from a bit of selection bias- the most likely to post are those who have had a bad experience in some form or another- as they should.
This post however is meant to be a post-purchase update from a new owner without any particular axe (or gears) to grind.
My one month (1500mile) impressions:
-this truck kicks some serious a$$. Handling is fantastic. I still look for excuses to drive so I can spend more time in the truck. Fun and effortless to crank on the highway in sport, and even more fun to blast rutted-out back roads in off-road high while the truck glides above the bumps. And yes, I’ll admit it, I had to give her a hand bubble bath after the back roads to get the mud off and restore that brand-new shine. Ok fine, dammit, maybe a couple bubble baths (the trouble is that once she is all shined up, it’s hard not to go blasting down another dirt road!)
-Fit and finish are largely fantastic with only minor quibbles (I suspect that many of the, uhhh, more discerning posters are coming from a different car background than I am, and have likely owned some immaculate cars prior to their Rivian’s. For me, this is by far the nicest vehicle I have ever owned (while also recognizing that many people have had legit issues with their)
-sound system is spectacular. Now my all time favorite place to listen to music, audiobooks, podcasts…and really anything else. Phone call Bluetooth quality is superb
-No major software challenges
-All interactions with service (admittedly limited- delivery and a single scheduled appointment for minor issues) have been seamless
In addition to being pretty much blown away thus far, I’m also excited for the next update. I’ve got minor dislikes with the nav interface (can we please select our own charger/route?), and the flickering cars on highway assist are a bit annoying- but that’s the type of stuff I’m confident will improve dramatically with More vehicles on the road and future updates. I remain overwhelmingly impressed and happy with my purchase.
Hope this helps any lurkers out there with similar pre-purchase cold feet. Jump on in, the waters just fine!
