Makes sense as It's always tricky when you attempt to jumper two batts in parallel due to potential differences in voltage between the two sources. Enough potential difference between the two batts and a large current flow with sparks flying or even a battery explosion could occur. Going forward, if they indeed go with a single 12V battery, there should be no reason the two vehicle half's can't be connected via a positive bridge cable or terminal block connection (and they already share a common negative ground circuit).

That's an assumption, not evidence. We simply don't know whether the original intent was to power the 2 circuits from one power source or two.
Wouldn’t “supply chain issues” be an assumption as well?

Absolutely. But go back and read my original statement, I never presented anything as fact. The statement was clearly speculative in nature as I was pointing out that there are other viable explanations and that we will likely never know the real answer. My point regarding assumptions from others is that they can not be presented as fact to discredit what I had presented as a mere possibility. Proof of original design would require facts that simply aren't available outside of Rivian at this point.

For reference, here's my original post:
May have been a decision forced by supply chain, we'll likely never know.
Some people are obviously tired of hearing about supply chain problems and others dismiss that it ever was a problem but that's an entirely different conversation.

Week and a half later, this is what fixed my truck. I asked the mobile tech at the time if he could just try replacing with another set of 12V batteries but he said it wouldn’t work. Wish we didn’t have to get it towed in to confirm that was the issue.

The dead batteries were just the symptom. The software update was the actual issue, and did need to be done at the SC.

If you have only one battery, please post pics.
The capacitor is in a battery-shaped box so it looks almost the same. You can tell it is a capacitor because of the red lead on the left side instead of the black ground lead if it is a battery. They likely did this to make it easy to distinguish between the two.

I'm not taking it apart again just take a photo for you. Enjoy the salt.

My 12V batteries are being replaced via Mobile service this coming Tuesday in my garage.....I had two 12V service warnings and one, power reduction to 19mph yesterday. Hard reset restored operational status to full power to get home at normal speeds. It's interesting they scheduled a field service without any real diagnostics.....

Someone said to use my GoPro and record the service being performed....I imagine that isn't Kosher......but would be interesting....

The constant stream of replacement 12V batteries must be costing Rivian a small fortune. I doubt the manufacturer is covering the costs because it's not due to manufacturing defects.
