I had my 2022 quad vin in the 1600’s - I noticed that my motors are quite a bit louder than the 2023 quad - Am I imagining this or do others notice this as well?

I have a 2022. Never been in a 2023, but at this point the motor noise has become background noise.

You are sure it isn't your tires, right? After 2 QM I have a Tri. I'm stunned how much more quiet the entire vehicle is. I keep asking myself if the QM had gotten that loud and I didn't notice or what. My first QM got REAL noisy and I thought it was the motors, but it was the tires.

You know that's right! Hard to determine what is normal and what is an issue with the OG Quads. Have loud noise (whine) in mine too.

I have a later 2023 Quad (18xxx.) I had read reviews saying the enduro motors were much quieter, but then I test drove a 2025 Dual last month and it had exactly the same amount of engine noise as my quad (I.e. very little except when quickly accelerating.) So, similar to many other things like suspension and subframe, I think later 2023/24 Quads got some Gen2 upgrades to control motor noise. There were clearly big changes in early/mid 2023 production (I.e. improved dampers, cast subframe, improved engine dampening, etc) that would probably qualify as an unannounced “refresh.” If you have a Rivian from this period, it’s probably best described as a Gen 1.5, as they clearly have many of the upgrades officially introduced in the Gen 2s. Alas, the cameras still suck though ?

I feel a big factor is tires as well. I own a gen 2 dual, and am currently driving an early VIN quad with AT tires...

Those tires are so noisy I can't hear anything over them. They look cool but I can't wait to get back into mine with street tires ?

I agree about the Gen 1.5 thought. I have a '23 and VIN in the 20k range. I have the suspension upgrades and other refinements without the decontenting of the G2's. I do got some motor whine but it didn't seem any worse than the G2 or G1 dual motors I drove before buying mine. By 25-30 mph or so, it is inaudible compared ot most any other noise.

They will be a bit louder if accelerating hard but never anything worrisome or annoying. Honestly, I like the sound. It is just loud enough to know things are working without being bothersome.

Is your dual on the 22's? My Gen2 Dual isn't particularly loud, but it is on the 20" Goodyear AT's which Rivian labels as AS, and I sometimes wonder if the 22's would make a big difference.

Motors will be louder at lower speeds when they are being run inefficiently in order to heat the battery, you sure that's not what you're experiencing?

Yeah I'm on 22" sport darks... Practically 0 tire noise. I hear far more motor noise than tire noise in mine.

The quad with ATs almost had me fooled into thinking the motors are quieter, because by comparison to the tire noise, they are quiet

I have AT20s….i haven’t noticed much noise but I haven’t driven it in the summer yet with the windows down. But plenty of interstate driving over 80mph and they seem fine.

My loaner was a Gen1 Quad. It was loud to the point of annoying. Both tires and motor noise. My DMP may be slow but it’s super quite.

Definitely not how it describe the tires on this. So maybe it's using a different tire, or perhaps it's just because it's a launch edition quad that has less sound damping. But anything above 20 and I hear an abundance of tire noise. And feel the vibration from the tires through the steering wheel as well
