Adaptive Cruise Control

Does anyone know if the “Adaptive” part of the adaptive cruise control can be disabled? It’s annoying in even modest freeway traffic. I’ve looked unsuccessfully in the Owners Manual. Thanks in advance

Nope. It's decent until you hit stop and go traffic or come up on traffic stopped at a light. For some inexplicable reason it waits until it has to slam on the brakes before reacting and I hate it. So when coming up on stopped traffic I just disable the ACC and coast in...like the truck should do on its own.

I would like to control the CC myself, but the Adaptive function is more trouble than it’s worth, even in just moderate freeway traffic. Thanks all

Pretty funny legacy auto makers have had ACC figured out for over a decade and Rivians acts like it's programmed by a 5th grader.

Rivian have addressed this, but it doesn't seem like it is something they are willing to support. They feel the added safety of the adaptive part outweighs the convenience. I tend to disagree, as the phantom braking with someone behind me is less than ideal...

Does anyone else have problems with the steering wheel sensors? I usually have my hand at 9 on the steering wheel and feel I'm getting constantly warning dings to make sure my hand is on the wheel

That's the time I use it the most. Stop and go traffic on SoCal freeways. It will bring the truck to a stop, hold it and then go again. I keep mine adjusted to the closest following distance.

Just had a Toyota Camry for a rental car and the adaptive cruise control is much worse than Rivians.

On a freeway with 3 or more lanes it phantom brakes all the time with cars in the lane to my right. I am fed up with and just turn it off. It is probably only useful on the open road. My guess is they are relying on the camera instead of radar. All the good systems use radar for ACC and cameras for LKA.

In my Mach E adaptive can be turned off, but I always use it since it works very well.

The steering wheel has capacitive sensors that don't seem to be present exactly at 9/3. I grab slightly higher and have no problems.

Seriously. I had mine overreact to cars in a left turn lane that was well marked twice today and it was lucky I was hovering over the throttle so the car behind didn't hit me. Logged both incidents, but no clue how to report them since my guide has ghosted me. I've had this happen with both left and right turn lanes since I got the truck and I was driving in the through lane. It was briefly better after the 2023.14 update, but it seems to be back again.

That must be really bad then, because the Rivian is the worst I have ever seen. Took a trip today and every time I tried to pass a semi or trailer on my right it phantom braked. Please give me an option to have standard cruise control, until it can be fixed.
