About to take delivery. Thinking of adding the cross bars. Guide says they are $450 with delivery of vehicle or $625 through the gear shop after delivery. I think the $450 is because I was on the old price lock. I don’t believe the cross bars by itself does anything. I think you still have to buy the specific mount for ski/snowboard or bike or surfboard.

Originally I thought the trunk would be enough space to put our snowboards and skis. Wanted to get peoples opinion. Guide says he believes the cross bars are easily installed and removed and just snap on. Don’t need professional installation. I’m leaning toward getting them in case we need them, if it’s really that easy to remove and install myself.

I bought them after and paid the inflated price (sadly). Snowboards will fit in the gear tunnel, but I like the crossbars for bike racks, Thule ski box etc. They do snap on and lock very easily. If you think you will use them - buy them now at the discounted price - is my guidance.

I hope the guides can inspire a bit more confidence with their product knowledge.

Get them at the discounted price. You’ll find a use for them, and they are easily installed/removed by one person (using step ladder and a long reach to avoid hitting the glass roof).

Very easy to install and remove when not being used. Best crossbars I’ve ever owned because of that

I have found uses for the crossbars without any additional mounts - strapping down lumber, wrapping Christmas lights around, etc. But yes, for most usefulness, you need an additional accessory of some kind. Any brand of “crossbar-mount carrier for <thing>” should work, kayak, ski/snowboard, bike, cargo box, etc.

They are extremely simple to put on/take off. And the locks use the same key system as Yakima accessories, so if you buy Yakima bike rack/ski rack/etc, you can get keyed-alike locks.

Snowboards will fit in the gear tunnel if you have the R1T (you don’t specify) but not in the frunk. Skis won’t fit in any R1T locked storage. Obviously, both would fit in the R1S with creative packing. But for skis in a waterproof location, you’d need a crossbar-mount carrier.

I've used my crossbars a bunch of times already. Super easy to use and very well built. If we ever get any snow, I'll be putting my standard Thule ski racks on them too (I haven't test fit them yet, but assume they'll work). I'd say get them if it's not a big deal - you'll likely find a use for them if you're outdoorsy, or you can probably sell them later and at least break even.

If you don't get them, how do you plan to mount your Christmas lights then?

Skis won’t fit in any R1T locked storage.
It depends on length of the skis. My 175 All-mountain, 182 powder, and 192 skate skis all fit diagonally in the truck bed.

Well, this very much depends on the skis ?

My wife and most of my friends can fit their skis in the bed just fine (diagonally in some cases). My 188 powder skis are just a hair too long to fit diagonally, mostly due to rocker.
